This reminds me of a Bill Gates vs Steve Jobs flash game where Bill Gates will taunt Steve Jobs as a "one-button mouse-using freak" (referring to Steve's iPhone that doubles as his lightsaber) before smashing him with a pop-up window.

@13:50 - I game with a trackball ("thumb ball"; currently a Logitech MX Ergo), mainly Portal and COD. I haven't used an ordinary mouse (in my own setup) for like 16+ years, never looked back.

I remember trying to game on a Mac with a Magic Mouse back in 2015... No wonder why I switched to a Windows PC shortly afterwards. Keep up the great work, Ken!

I'm no gamer, but I've had Macs since 1986 (Lisa converted to Mac), and those original games were so memorable...endless one-button fun.

You need two mice. Set up the system for dual mice, one for movement (norm), one for everything else.

Trackballs usually do have multiple buttons. Some even have a scrollwheels, so a trackball is a full mouse replacement, except that you only move a ball with your fingers (sometimes just your thumb, better with your index and middle finger) and not an entire device with your hand/arm. Try playing Portal with a trackpad 😉As that's what I prefer for the desktop because it scrolls lovely in both directions with two fingers, I can pinch, go forth/back, drag with three fingers and do right click with two finger tap. For desktop operations it's great (also very fast and still very precise when required) but probably not so much for 3D action gaming; it's okay for some click&point games, like adventures, puzzle games and even some real time strategy games.

I played so much with the second gen and mouse when I was young! Pyjama Sam, Freddie the Fish (I think it was called) and similar games were the ones of my childhood. What a blast!

as someone who regularly plays MMO's such as world of warcraft on mac Its not that bad... and on modern macos u can enable right click function and the magic mouse has a right click side of the touch surface thanks for coming to my ted talk

Every Mac I bought since 2004 had an Apple mouse. I found the mice often failed prematurely with poor durability, that it was clunky to access the right-click contextual menus by pressing the option key. So with my last iMac that I bought in 2014 I ordered a trackpad with that Mac instead and enabled right-clicking.

Can't speak to a modern gaming experience but when I hook up my Power Mac G3 playing Unreal on it is pretty good with the later ADB mouse (the Appledesign keyboard isn't bad either). Actually that sounds kind of fun

Well, that also happpens a lot to me when I'm using my old $1 Votre mouse on my laptop. the right click, wheel & wheel button is busted, so I have to use my laptop's touchpad button for the right click, they fill's each other's role since my laptop touchpad isn't that really that good for precise movement but is suffice for a two finger scroll motion and using three-finger tap for wheel button. It might be disorienting at first, but I used to do this after a month.

When you chose the keyboard commands I was like "well, that's fine, he can choose keyboard". We used to play with keyboard and no mouse all the time.x) Though I guess it could be more difficult with modern games?

I have fond memories of playing American McGee’s Alice on an old iMac G3, it ran poorly but I’ll be dammed if i didn’t love it

Instead of mapping the secondary fire to F, you could map it to one of the modifier keys so that you could reach it with your thumb or your pinky wihout getting the three primary fingers off WSAD.
