Can You Game on a 10 Year Old CPU?

This is just a quick video to test the gaming potential of the qx6700 a 10 year old cpu.

$100 PC Specs/Synopsis:

Started with a dell optiplex 760 prebuilt($50.60 on Ebay) Core 2 Quad Q8200 4gb ddr2 180gb HDD Crappy old amd GPU BTX intel motherboard 305W PSU

I purchased a Sapphire HD 7850 1gb for $50 from hardware swap

Traded the dell PSU, crappy old GPU, and $5 for a raidmax 500w PSU from craigslist.

Cut an extra slot in the back and cut off a chunk of the heatsink to fit the graphics card.

Ended up with a pretty powerful Gaming PC for just over $100

Finally a proper test of old hardware. Everyone else's "can this old hardware game?" is usually low end for the time. If it couldn't game then, it probably won't game now.

This one was perfect, picking the best of the time to compare against new games. Great job! Way to go Matt!

i have also a old retro pc with a modded 771 cpu on a 775 board with 6GB tripple channel and a 1GB DDR5 graphic card and one SSD & one 500GB HDD it also runs the most games from 2015-2017 its awesome.

i managed to get a pc with a 2600 (non k) 8gb ram a motherboard and a gt 520 for free :) quite nice, put a 970 in instead of the gt 520 and its a beast now

Got an i7 870 with a 6gb 1060 and it plays all the games I've tried at 55-75 fps ultra.
That's stuff like Forza horizon 3 and gears of war 4.
It was released in 2009 I believe.
Probably next year I'll upgrade but it's probably going to hit the ten year mark.
I'm starting to look for another CPU that could last as long, without paying like 800 quid.
Things don't seem to be moving as fast these days and although 4k will become the new setting to run at I dont think 1080 will ever seem terrible like the old days of 640×480 and 800×600.

Hey Matt I got a pentium D at 2.8 ghz and an nvidia GeForce gt620 now (originally a Radeon x1300pro) and plays games much better with it. A 2006 pc with a 2012 gpu with 25 gigs ram

I kept drooling over this cpu back in 2006 while gaming on a pitful AthlonXP 2600+ and a Geforce 7800GS (which was quite decent for it's time).

Still running a QX9650 @ OC 3.5Ghz paired with an HD7970 3Gb on my CAD workstation and it packs quite a punch. Just decided to upgrade to the X99 platform for the fun of building a new system.

No. It was the 8800 GTX. QX6700 and 8800 GTX launched at the same time. So the best GPU you could buy was the 8 series at that time :)

I'm running an I7-880 LGA1156 from 7 years ago specifically with an RX480. I can do pretty good on games. Unfortunately on certain games, it suffers somewhat low frame rates. I can't complain but at the same time i wish i had a new system. I can't upgrade anymore on this MOBO either.

I bought an HP DX2400 for $25 of Craigslist then bought a Xeon X5450 off Ebay for $17 and a EVGA 750 TI FTW Edition for $50 and then dropped in an SSD $11 and 4 2GB ram Kingston $10 and a Thermaltake 550w +80 bronze Psu $5 :) Game on
