Removing Ceiling Drywall | My First Renovation

Hey there! Today we are going to remove all the ceiling drywall. Why would we do this, you ask? Great question! First, there are some pretty bad patches in the ceiling already. There are places where the drywall is different thicknesses, water stains, popcorn (yuck), some sagging points. These issues alone aren’t a justification to replace the entire ceiling, but I also need to redo AC ducts, electrical, and repair some damaged rafters. The HVAC installer even cut me a deal since they could use a ladder instead of having to slither through that attic for the installation. All things considered, I think taking down the drywall on the ceiling will help make everything else faster.

Thank you! I'm so keen to pull down the ceilings on the ground floor of my house but have a loft conversion already in place which I'm happy with. This makes the prep for demolishing the ceiling below more complicated but I'm delighted with your advice that I need to prepare the electrics above before launching into the demolition of the ceilings!

Awesome! It’s amazing how everything looks so big when the ceiling is off. Good job removing it, it definitely will save you time and make for a much more professional install.

Do you know if there was any asbestos in the ceiling? That popcorn stuff is apparently pretty horrible. I'm tackling this myself soon - thanks for sharing!

I’m about to pull out my ceiling due to Ida. I plan on putting tile in its place… never done something so big 😬 I’m nervous.

I'm about to do this at mine: I'm assuming you cleared out all the insulation first? I have cellulose, but I'm not sure how I would do it. Vacuum maybe.

That also looks like it is textured ceiling and has ASBESTOS you totally missed every safety measure for your helpers and everyone else no coming into that home. I see you had an ok respiratory with filter but your crew did not. You had no plastic up to catch the asbestos or anything else. You should take this video down before you get people hurt or dead from breathing in that stuff.

Pulling all the staples and nails was a total waste of time and accomplished absolutely nothing. You just take your hammer and drive them in you only need to pull the ones that will stick out above the sub floor or the rafter and their will be very little if that a 12x12 room floor or ceiling can be done in 10 min. I understand OCD I use to come in and try to make every single thing better than perfect. It took loosing a lot of hours that meant loss of money for doing something that was not required or even considered a problem.
