I love Sarah Waters’ work. As a writer myself she has heavily inspired me with her plots and her style. But she also has an important part in my life and she was one of the first LGBTQ+ writers I read before I came out. “The Paying Guests” was my first outing into Waters territory and I have been hooked ever since. “Fingersmith” is such a fantastic book and one of my favourites of all time. I cannot wait for the next books she brings out.

Anyone who loves this book must see Park Chan Wook’s take of it in his film “The Handmaiden”

(Off topic but important: dear Booker-website-people, please don't forget to incorporate this into the book's page. Thank you!)

I was interested in Victorian torture devices and like in mediaeval times it is male dominated ways of being tortured which makes witch tortures fanciful.
