Fingersmith was my first queer book, cannot explain how terrified I was buying it! (even though I specifically picked it out because it didn't say it was queer in the title and blurb)

It was very long and the angst was quite heavy, but I enjoyed it anyway. It's absolutely full of post-its on all my favourite parts.

Dude no. I loved this book!!! The twist (where the plot is revealed) hooked me in. I don't even know if I'm a Victorian literature fan, but Fingersmith was very very good. It is subjective of course 😁

I raced through Fingersmith back in the day. It was my first Sarah Waters also and I was equally trepidatious about reading it. I remember it very fondly. I was blown away by the twists. I love the confidence to create a first person narrator who is not merely unreliable, but actually clueless.

Also I just like the word "fingersmith". Have done since I read Roald Dahl's short story, "The Hitch-hiker".

I've never read Sarah Waters but I would like to try one of her books at some point. Victorian novels, generally speaking, are hit or miss for me. Sorry to hear you didn't get on with this one more.

Loved this review; I had a similar reading experience to yours! Fingersmith was my second Sarah Waters novel, I had read and LOVED The Little Stranger before, expected FS to be equally engrossing and a new favourite but ended up disappointed...

Great review, and my intuition said it would be juicy fruit (not in those exact words), so I wasn't tempted to pick it up. Might watch the TV mini series

I read the night watch by Sarah waters and thought it was ok... I was thinking to read more Sarah waters for those kind of times when I don't feel like thinking a whole lot, but not rushing to read this...

I just finished this book and I somewhat agree. I really cared about the characters and so watching them suffer through long swathes of the book was hard. I wouldn’t describe it as boring but I did get tired of it.

I'll have to give this book a go sometime. Hard to say if I'll enjoy it or not, but it sounds interesting. It seems like people are split on either loving it or not.

Yes! Juicy fruit! Exactly that. Also the audio book was painful except for being able to put it on 2.5 speed.

The hype for Sarah Waters has overwhelmed me so I hadn't tried her. Haha - juicy fruit always disappointed me as well.
