People write books about how they went to heaven and saw Jesus, and they get best seller awards. I talk about how I went to Asgard and battled with the almighty Odin, and I get meds.

My wife had her throat cut in a robbery many years ago when she was working the midnight shift at a little store. She died on the operating table while the doctor was trying to put her throat back together. They lost her for about 4 minutes. She lived in a small town so news traveled fast. She was visited by several local clergy because at the time she was a southern Baptist Christian. They questioned her about her experience. When she told then she didn't know until the doctor told her about it, they refused to believe her. One even told her she was an idiot and could make millions if she would just "play the game". My wife is an Atheist now.

Have you ever noticed that people who are hindus, buddhists, pagans, who died but came back to life haven't reported they saw heaven (nor hell).

I died and went to Hell once. (Bullet wound to the chest.) When I met Satan, I told him, "Bitch, get the fuck off my throne." Then he kicked me out of Hell, and well, here I am back on Earth.

Hemant you know what I wonder about all those people who have gone and come back? How come nobody ever went to hell? Like ever.

I met a woman who told me when she died she didn't go to heaven or hell she just saw soldiers holding guns to her head. It actually scared the hell out of me when I was younger.

I read that when we die, our brain still goes on for 7 minutes... This could explain this and the white light.. There is an explanation for EVERYTHING. All you need to do is read books.

The real question is that would the kid even see "heaven" if no one even told him about heaven or teach him Christianity?

Technically I was dying back in 2007.  When they put me under for surgery I had a dream I was a cowboy.  When I came home from the hospital I spotted a pony outside of my bedroom window, on the horse farm across the road.  IT'S A SIGN!!

I like how he doesn't completely shove away all ideas of religion and belittles everything religious. He actually respects the millions of religious people out there.

Nobody describes Hell experiences because Endorphines, Serotonine and Dopamine are pleasure substances..

Although people in other cultures and religions don't go to “Heaven”, they do have Near Death Experiences. I wrote a report about NDEs in high school (my English teacher hated it; she was a conservative Christian) and looked into a few specific NDE claims (I basically searched for the supposed best cases for NDEs being supernatural; it turns out they aren't all that good), as well as looking at general reports on the nature of NDEs. One of my favorite factoids from that is that Indians tend to have NDEs about office buildings. NDEs tend to have similar components based on where you live; it's all cultural.

Logic at it's finest.
Very polite and well put.
Amazing restraint, good job Hemant.
You make an atheist proud. :)

In a few hundred years or sooner your personal God will be regarded as a pagan god and a myth, as all other gods before have been, then this lunacy will end and the world will be set free.

i live in japan, and i've heard many stories from japanese people (usually on tv) about them having a near-death experience and "going to heaven". however, what they tend to see on their deathbed is nothing like westerners do: many japanese people claim that, in their near-death experience, they saw a single river in front of them, which they were about to cross but did not. pretty different from the christian heaven with angels and harps and stuff, huh?

well, this river actually originates from a famous buddhist mythology; it is said to separate life here on earth and the afterlife, and once you get to the other side of the river, you're a goner. as you may know, japan is a country that's heavily affected by buddhist tradition, and even people who don't identify as religious are still exposed a lot to buddhist customs and stories. thus, it makes total sense that they would see things that resemble the buddhist view of afterlife rather than the christian one, since their brains can't generate what they're not familiar with.

christians, i know what you're thinking, and you're right, this doesn't disprove your religion nor the presence of heaven. however, i do think that this proves how these near-death experiences are nothing more than just people hallucinating, or at least, that these stories about heaven aren't that reliable, since people from different cultures see totally different things.

kid: holy shit!
doctor: what? you were nearly dead. what happened?
kid: it was fun.
doctor: what was?
kid: I was in hell. it's actually really nice there. Satan said the pits of fire were snuffed out years ago.
doctor: well that book won't sell well.

What about the times when people come back to life and say they had no experience of anything? Is that evidence that god doesn't exist?
