He saved 23 lives. 23 families that got to see their sons again. 23 men who got to live on and keep fighting. But in doing so he gave up his life and had to give up his family. RIP John. Chapman.

John Chapman wasn't stuck on the mountain with them. They were stuck on that mountain with HIM.
RIP John.

At 5:20AM, God told him it was not his time and his brothers still needed him. He responded in any way a true hero would, rest peacefully in Valhalla.

The mental toughness to do what he did is incredible. Everyone likes to think they could do what he did, but the truth is that almost everyone would freeze and collapse in panic and fear and hope someone would come to rescue them. Especially after being so severely wounded.

To be able to have the courage and tenacity to get up, stay up and keep fighting is an incredible demonstration of courage and tenacity.

As a retired USAF vet I would like to say that I'm both honored and humbled to have served in the same service as MSgt Chapman. I'd also like to say that I've had the honor and pleasure to have served with UK Forces and you'll never find a better bunch of folks.

R.I.P you legend...my father was airforce pararescue in Vietnam...when I showed him the video a while ago he cried, I think some of those tears was pride....William H. Pitsenbarger is another airforce legend.

There is a great scene in Band of Brothers where Speirs is telling one of the guys that his problem is that he still thinks he's going to live through this. As soon as he accepts he is already dead, he will become unstoppable. I think about that scene when I watch this video.

This wasn't a normal man. His strength of character, body and mind had to off the charts.

This shows why anyone that wears the medal of Honor Deserves instant respect because they have earned it by going so far above and beyond what is expected of an ordinary soldier.
