Hey Mach E Fans, Tom from The Universe Here!

This video is a long-term review of my daily driver, a Ford Mustang Mach-E Select with 25,000 miles on it after a year and a half. It's my first electric vehicle (EV), and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer.

The Good Stuff:

Smooth, silent ride: This car feels like a dream, a perfect escape from the daily hustle.
Powerful acceleration: Forget the V8 rumble – electric cars have silent pull, kind of like an airplane taking off!
One-pedal driving: This feature uses regenerative braking to slow down the car – super cool and feels futuristic.
Winter champ: The Mach-E handled snowy, icy roads like a champ!
Spacious cargo area: Groceries, road trip gear, you name it – this car can handle it.
Low maintenance: Say goodbye to constant brake pad replacements!

Not-So-Perfect Stuff:

Tight for 5 passengers: The back seat is a bit snug, especially for adults.
Cold weather zaps range: Up to 40% range loss without pre-conditioning the car.
Road trips: Smaller battery and limited range might not be ideal for everyone.
Upside down financially: The purchase price stings a bit right now.

The Verdict?

This electric stallion is perfect for daily drivers who value comfort and quiet rides. However, if you need lots of passenger space or conquer road trips frequently, you might want to keep looking.

Ultimately, the Mach-E Select is a great choice for those who want to experience electric car life and enjoy cruising around town. Just be sure to factor in the range limitations and charging times for longer ventures.

Bonus Stuff:

This video covers some common concerns about EVs, like car washes and winter performance.
I also talk about some maintenance experiences and cool features like BlueCruise.
Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions!

Great review.
I went from a 22 powerboost lariat that i ordered from ford, to a 23 mach e gt pp that is exactly how i would order it, but was on the lot. 5 months in, 9k miles, and i love it. The simplicity of the driving experience and maneuvering ability is a understatement coming from a guy who only drove full size trucks to a ev. Only comfort i miss is the cooled seats. Havent seen many cold temps yet so cant comment on that. And the "i dont pay attention to gas prices" line, is much an understatement, as i dont even notice the prices anymore either
Thanks for the review

Absolutely agree with your review. I had a ‘22 Premium that my wife totalled at Christmas. Ended up replacing it with a ‘23 GT for less than I paid for the ‘22 thanks to the price cuts.

It’s a great car, fun to drive, and with good winter tires, it is absolutely awesome in the snow. (And I’m talking full-on Canadian winter!)

The thing I would say about the Mach-E is that it’s a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. It does everything well, but isn’t necessarily exceptional at anything. There are other EVs that are more efficient, or have better software, or better range, or faster charging, or better handling, etc. Depending on your priorities, that might appeal to you more. But if you want a solid, well built car that is fun to drive and ALSO happens to be an EV? The Mach-E is a great choice.

They’re also continuing to improve it. The 2023.5 and 2024 models have a more efficient cooling system. ‘24s will get new motors, faster charging and slightly better range.

Very helpful and informative review. You do an excellent job covering daily driving experience, range, and helpful tips regarding charging. The immediate power and handling of EVs is a huge plus for me. Thanks for this comprehensive review!

Great review, I would echo your review. I have a 2022 Premium Standard range rear wheel Mach-E and just hit 50K. Came from an F150 and the gas saving is amazing! Love driving it a lot of fun and really don't miss driving my F150 anywhere as much as I thought I would. Here in FL I don't have to worry about the winter which helps but I do road trip it about once a month about 350-500 miles and thankfully mostly positive public charging experiences. I do wish it charged a little quicker, 10-80% in 20-25mins would be nice. Thanks for the Video!

This seemed like a thorough and even-handed take on the Mach-E. Very much appreciated your perspective, especially since you moved from a truck to the Mach-E. I’m considering the same move albeit from a Nissan Frontier, but until this truck I’d always driven V8 pickups. So I’m nervous about not driving a truck and also having zero experience with EVs. Would you recommend leasing to test the waters? Should I wait for the 2025? Thanks.

Subscribed! Enjoyed your straightforward presentation. I am considering either this or one of the Hyundai models. Thank you.

I drive an MME in Whitehorse, Yukon and I’ll completely agree with your point on how well it drives in winter. Regen braking works better than any ABS ever made.

Thank you for this video. I've finally decided to pull the trigger on the Mach E after driving 5 of its competitors. If price weren't the issue, then it would probably be the Genesis v60, but given everything and taking your video into account, the Mach E it is.

Excellent review! We have a 2023 Premium AWD standard battery that we picked up back in June (of 24), when the lease bonuses went into 5 figures, we couldn't resist! The car also had a substantial dealer discount as well, so suffice it to say we are very happy with what we paid. It's my wife's daily and she loves it. We did take it out of town once, and what you observe is pretty much correct, expect to stop about every 120 miles or so if you are going between 80 and 20 percent. Obviously if you start at 100% you'll get a bit more, and amount of HVAC used and forward speed also make a big difference. The most I have seen in the gauge cluster at 100% is 233 miles of range with the AWD/Standard battery combo.

Really appreciate your great work and honest review! After spending many hours watching EV YouTube videos, this is top notch.

I've been on the fence switching to an EV for my daily driver. I live in SE lower Michigan and winters are the one thing that has stopped me from making that switch. So thank you for the real talk about cold weather range.

Nice overview. I have a 2021 First Edition and its probably my favorite car I've ever owned. After 3 years of ownership my only complaint is that you cant see artist and title of whats playing on the radio (radio or SiriusXM) if youre not actively on the radio screen...no option to have it show anywhere else on the main screen or the smaller gauge cluster. And since i always drive with Google Maps up via Android Auto, every time a song comes on and I want to know who sings it I have to switch the entire screen to the radio function, wait 3 seconds for that to load just to see the artist, then tap back into Android Auto. Very annoying as this happens multiple times/day, but definitely a first world problem. I just wish they didnt make those info/shortcut tiles at the bottom of the screen so small that they cant accommodate both artist and title 🤷‍♂️. Otherwise its got every feature and functionality that I want in an EV, to the point that I've had several opportunities to get a competing EV and declined because they were missing at least one or more feature the Mach-E has.

I’m 6’3 looking to switch to this vehicle & we have 2 car seats. Do you think this vehicle has enough room for that?

Great review, thanks! You mentioned winter performance. Curious if you still have the factory summer tires or if your Mach-E came with all weather tires? 7:36

Pretty much my experience. Bought March 2024. Ford was dumping them, so no problem on price. Opposite side of the coin would be resale is probably down as well. Only problem is range reduction due to temp extremes. Here it’s heat. Try a trip when the temp is 112 degrees. A/C keeps up, but range is down just like in cold temp’s. And of course, 80 mph on freeway is always problematic. I’ll try some long distance again in more temperate times. That’s my *only* disappointment—I wanted to feel reasonably secure traveling 250 miles (90 kWh battery) without highway fast charge. We will see.

One thing not emphasized…cost of charging! If you don’t charge at home, the car is significantly *more* expensive to drive than any ICE vehicle, hence this is not a long range trip car no matter the range. Best cost for an external fast DC charge was 54 cents a kWh. Doesn’t bother me as I bought this for local trip use. If you’ve no experience with high performance cars, you’ll find this a fun, fast vehicle. Interior room is competitive with other EV and most smaller ICE SUV’s.

Do you get snow tires for winter or just use an all weather tire?
