ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.

At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine or in person if you're in the Lexington, KY area. We find a lot of undiagnosed Pre-Diabetes or Insulin Resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like Pre-Diabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

Don't throw your salmon, halibut or other omega 3s back in the water yet! After years of bad news for Omega 3 fans, there is a glimmer of hope. How clear is that glimmer? Not very, at least for now. It's basically fueled by stock prices. But I do think there's enough there to keep taking Omega 3s. And be patient. In 6 weeks, we'll get a lot more info.

Thank you again for the information. I prefer your longer videos as I am trying to understand the science of health and the impacts of diet on health.

Thank you for this info. Dr Brewer, you have the talent of making complex subjects understandable!

In all these studies we have to look at who funded it (the old saying: Follow the money) to see who benefits from the findings. Never believe that studies can't or aren't designed to produce the findings that some special interest organization wants.

Are you going to revisit this issue now that more data has been released?

I've seen the video twice. The information is one of the easier ones to understand. However, I suggest the information be displayed in the small box, while Dr. Ford Brewer continue to grace us with himself in the larger box. I am NOT reading the studies on the display.
I would like to suggest that the video show Dr. FB alone, then cut to full page of articles, then return to FB. We like the 'personal' presentation of the voice and face. In an auditorium, we look at the speaker, and the screen later. On Ted talks, we mostly see the speaker.

I agree that the Vascepa is very expensive and not necessary for good health. The EPA/DHA discussion I find harder to use because many supplements do not list the amounts. The claim is that it varies from batch to batch.

I supplement Omega 3s with a Solgar product. Triple Strength Omega 3
One large softgel has 504 mg EPA and 378 mg DHA. The only ingredients are fish oil ( anchovies, mackerel, herring and sardines);
gelatin; vegetable glycerin, and natural tocophenols. If you want more than 950 mg Omega 3 then you can take more than one tablet.
I purchase from Vitacost which has E-Bates.

I am taking about three to four grams of EPA and a statin. The EPA keeps triglycerides down and may thin the blood. As a vegan, I would prefer plant-based sources but what the heck.

I'll see if triglycerides stay down on my next round of blood tests, and if more research comes out. I use extra virgin olive oil on salads. The ratios of omega- 6s to omega-3s modulates inflammation. I also like brown algae-produced DHA but it is expensive and no EPA.

With exercise, diet, medicines, and supplements, plus avoiding alcohol, sugar, simple carbs, processed foods, what can possible go wrong? I keep losing weight, too.

Doc, Great, you have your new video format, but if you show us info put block the info with your face in block, it takes away from your great work.

On a Prior subject, insulin resistance. Is there an alternative to metformin that can also help with appetite suppression or weight loss?

well the reason for 'getting the jump' by pharma is of course they know the study has limitations, and may not mean a whole lot in the whole scheme of things. But it is a good chance to boost stock prices. When the detail of the study is available I would be interested to see the fine detail....as how many confounding factors are there in CVD when trying to analyse one item of risk aversion?. AND another milestone today....had 20 Korean Ginseng seeds sprouting, and transplanted in to pots.
