Know he isn’t a fan of most modern anime but without this man many modern anime wouldn’t be around and definitely not as popular. Grave of the Fireflies is one the first anime that made me cry. As a grown man believe I would still tear up if I watched it. To me an anime that can generate emotion in the audience is a sign of a great story. Love studio Ghibli as a kid of the nineties and animated movies have to thank this man for his work.

Personally I think he and Walt Disney have more in common than people realize - especially their childhoods. They were both forced to grow up fast to support their parents through tough times.
And as leaders they were both unable to pass their role on to anyone else. And it looks to me like when Miyazaki leaves this world, the same thing will happen to Ghibli that happened to Disney - with no clear successor to him, the studio will fall to the corporate leadership.

My first ever Ghibli film was Spirited Away, but I’ve grown to love older films like Castle in the Sky and Kiki’s delivery service.

I’m Italian, I was born in 1974 and I just realized that most of the cartoons and series I watched as a child were Miyazaki’s works. At the time in Italy, cartoons were only a children thing, and all the series that you could find on television were coming from Japan. I started to watch Lupin series when I was around 10 years old. I’m still a fan of his work and passing this passion to my daughters.

His work is such a massive part of my life and provides me with intense warmth, safety and an intrigue. Despite having watched Ghibli almost daily for years, my love for it only grows. Spirited Away is my favourite, with Howl's Moving Castle in second.

I admire him. I think he's a real artist, has made huge impact on animation and influenced generations. He's weird in some way but that contributes to him being an icon. My fav movie from him is Howls moving castle but I watched all of them.

Wonderful documentary thank you for your work.

Funnily enough, my favorite Ghibli movie is Whisper Of the Heart, directed by Yoshifumi Kondo, the supposed successor of Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki who sadly passed away too soon.

He's one of those people who uses his work to hide the fact that every other aspect of his life has suffered because of his work. I feel bad for his children.

Totoro!! I grew up in Western Tokyo, but every summer we spent 6 weeks in Nagano by Lake Nojiri. The farms, houses, and natural world in the movie exactly depicts my childhood summer wonderland. So beautiful...

My favorite films of his happen to be one that he regrets and one he felt was difficult to write the antagonist for. These being Porko Rosso and Castle in the Sky.
I love his films because they encapsulate such magic, even in the mundane, and seem closer to dreams than films.

How your childhood affects your adult life is amazing and when you are a caring intelligent person, it's very difficult, but for that reason it gives us amazing films that we can all relate too.Thankyou for a great video.

My first Ghibli film was Princess Mononoke, and I immediately became a life long fan. It’s a shame that working with Miyazaki was so difficult for his employees and collaborators, as well as his family. However, one can’t deny the man’s genius and the legendary status his work has reached.

My first studio Ghibli film was Spirited Away, a master piece. I have watched every single film produced by Studio Ghibli and have got my two children into them. I love the fact his leads are mostly young Girls. His films are infused with such beauty mixed with a sense of the real world and the sprit world. Offering no trite answers to many of life's issues.

I think that what japanese are the best at, is enlightening simple every day moments. Whether it'd be in Animes or movies... And Up On Poppy Hill is my favorite Ghibli movie, so I'm really glad someone came to talk about it! (it's not the best Ghibli, but it just speaks to me)
