You're not supposed to dump the water right on top of the drawing and you need to have the drawing dark and full of ink that way it doesn't fall apart. I've tried this before and it worked.

Couple things...
You had to let the marker fully dry after writing with it, it has an alcohol solvent suspending a silicone solution
Pour the water slowly and away from the drawing so the vibrations/ripples don't disturb it much
Use lukewarm water because if it's too hot it will just start dissolving
Flat surfaces work better because the water can slowly get underneath instead of immediately on top
Brands/markers that erase the cleanest after drying out should work the best

You would have done better pouring the water more gently and away from the picture and slowly tilting the glass to get the water to GENTLY flow to the paint (from the paint markers)

Would it be possible to preform these "drawings on water" by drawing on a flat piece of ice and letting it melt?

Hi Kelly. A very cool experiment that you can show in a video is to fully lick a pane of smooth glass like this one. Then, let it dry for a few seconds and then rub it on a "sweater jumper". The friction would make the glass very squeaky. Please try this experiment in your next video.
