Dear Arnel, I would like to say I've watched practically all your videos in Youtube, which I believe have helped me a lot. Thank you so much. Below is my summary about how to use WOULD. And I think there're 7 common uses. What do you think ? Is there anything more ?

1: Making request in a super polite way.
ex: would you mind turning down the music ? and I think it's like 'could you turn down the music, please ? '

2: A polite way to say 'I want'
ex: I would like to hear something interesting is more polite than I want to hear something interesting.

3: Reported speech.(future in the past)
ex: He just said he would buy me a car.

4: Refusal (a polite way to refuse a person's request)
ex: are you coming to my birthday party tomorrw ? I would like to, but I'm working all day tomorrow.

5: Repeated actions in the past.
ex: I'd play basketball after school when I was a teenager.

6: Giving suggestion.
ex: my ex-girlfriend invited me to her wedding. I wouldn't go. (if i were you)

7: Imaginary or unreal situation.
A: imaginary situation in the present or future
ex: I'd buy a big house for my parents if I had one million dollars.
ex: If I didn't have a car, I would walk my kids to school.
ex: If I were taller a bit, I would play basketball in the NBA.

B: imaginary situation in the past.
ex: If you'd been one minute late, you would've missed that train.
ex: If I'd studied harder in school, I would've become a lawyer.

Dear Arnel, you are going to put a lot of ESL teachers out of work - well done! At 6:09 one could drop the "a" and simply say: "Would you like tea or coffee..." But: "a cup of tea".
