Congratulations to Mrs. W on her half marathon! And hope to see the bees installed and the tree house finished. And of course the timber framed cabin!

I thought that was a very nice touch at the end with Mrs. Wranglerstar, and the song. NIce.

I have a screened bottom also, it helps with mites and temperature control. I hinged mine so that it could be opened to adjust the air flow or closed up tight in cold weather.

Congrats to Mrs. W! She's humble and speedy : )
Well done Cody on getting the Top Bar Beehive 2.0 even better this go around. Hopefully the bees will thrive.

Congratulations, Mrs. Wranglerstar on your success in the marathon, and I hope to see how the bees will be.

I made a Top Bar Hive(TBH) from 2x12 material. Many here in Indiana have a hard time keeping bees over the winter in a TBH. I only had 2 hives survive this past winter, and the TBH is one of them....and it came out of winter very strong.
Great video, I hope your new hive does well.

I'm the new guy here!
What a great vlog! I love hearing about the garden, orchard and especially the bees. We live in Michigan with a bit of land and you have given me the incentive to start some small projects. 5 fruit trees now adorn our front yard (fairly large) and we are planning to get rid of about 200 sq. yards of lawn to make room for more fruit trees and a small veg. garden. The backyard might be an area for bees. I know nothing about bees except what I learned from you which is a good place to start...IMO!
Thanks for the knowledge you pass on!

I put a1/8 inch wide center ridge running the length of my top bars using a router with a straight bit. This way the bees have a nice solid long lasting edge to use as their guide. People also glue pop-sickle sticks in the cut groove of each bar to make an edge for the bees to build from.I've heard that the wax strip method wasn't as reliable, although I never tried that method.
Anyway good luck with the new bees. You will enjoy it more each year.

Hello Cody great video, I wanted to thank you as your original video a couple years ago inspired me to build my own top bar hives and to start keeping bees. After countless hours of video watched and a dozen or so books later I now have 8 top bar hives that I keep in PA some on our farm some on other family members farms. I hope that you never stop showing people inspiration in the little things as those little things add up. Anyway thanks for your time and congrats to Mrs. W on the 13.1!

Very cool!! My friend is thinking about putting bees on her land as well, they just took a class on how to raise them. After seeing you make your own structure, I'm going to have to send them your vid so they can make one! Very nice!
Congrats to Mrs W!!! I know how hard that is! Friend and I ran a 5K a couple months ago and now we're training for a 10K. It's hard work, but so rewarding! :)

Pre Varroa, floor solid, now mesh: mites that drop leave hive, monitor natural drop with temporary board, treat with maqs strip, (oxalyic acid when bloodless) if varroa found, now feed heavy to build colony

Congratulations to Mrs. W; Your finishing position in the race was quite an accomplishment!!!.
Cody, if you have some chunks of  timber left over that are too warped to utilize in the cabin, might I suggest that you put a heavy stretcher/foot on the legs at each end of your bee hive, so that, even in high winds, it will not lift or move at all. Growing up on the Northern coast of CA, I remember how strong those winds could get with the spring time storms.
