Hey Professor Sousa! I am not sure if you remember me, but I used to be a student of yours from 2019-2021. My name is Heather Blackie. I was hospitalized in 2021 for Covid and I unfortunately had withdrawal from your class. I just wanted to thank you for always being a great professor. I am now working on my masters in Homeland Security and currently work as an adult education coordinator. I work with a Native American tribe in Colorado and I teach! My students use your videos! I hope all is well.

Thanks. expressing these mathematical laws towards the order of operations really help me understand the logic to the computation for each problem.

Question. If you multiplied and divided on the same line at once 5*2 and 12/3 (example 4) then when you got to 3+16-10+4 why did you not add and subtract at the same time? I did 19-14 and got 5 ?

Dr. James. I want to discuss something. I researched on PEMDAS and realized that this is not really a very good rule all the time. 1. I realized that using brackets is way more clearer in mathematical expressions. 2. Also I realized that expressing subtraction as addition of negative numbers is more clearer (8+(-2) instead of 8-2). 3. And I realized that PEMDAS was just a way to make things easier and a way to avoid brackets. Is this true? And is this also true that using brackets instead of PEMDAS is much better?
