It's easily made from basic materials, but not very accurate
I challenge you to make a sling as well. Share your experience and post a video if you dare. :)

Great video. When I first started slinging I also felt that it's almost impossible to get accurate with it. But after more than 2 years of regular practice, I've found the weapon to be quite accurate. I actually made a video over a year ago demonstrating techniques that improved the accuracy of each cast.

To be honest I was waiting for you to cover this one. In one of my favorite fantasy series "Redwall" the woodland creatures use these as quite effective harrying weapons while archers reload and if the enemy gets close they keep the stone locked into the pouch by holding the pouch closed and use it as a close range clubbing weapon if they have nothing else on hand.

Could you make a video comparing and testing the differences between handheld slings and staff slings (range, accuracy, pros/cons, other uses). Also may be flexible vs sturdy wood under the staff category.

Glad to see you are posting again!!

I have been wanting to make a sling for over a year but have never gotten around to it. Therefore, I accept your challenge and will send you a vid :)

I find the split pouch style the balearics use to be the most accurate. They offer a very clean and consistent release in my opinion (which I previously struggled with). Food for thought. Great vid

King David became king with a sling...

I have a friend who served in the Marines in Iraq. He said the boys there would sling rocks at them and would use a cast that resembles a figure 8 in front of them.

I've tried that cast and my sling "sung" how fast I was whipping it.

Slings are no joke. Roman lead sling bullets were known to get stuck inside the people they hit.

Have you been practicing your whole life? That makes a difference on accuracy. The Baelaric slingers were known to be deadly accurate in ancient times. They started out slinging in their boyhood.

Could also be that you just aren't meant to be a good slinger. But your strengths lay in other areas.

Love your content. Keep it coming on a regular basis and you'll get way more popular I bet!

I noticed that you use cord, have you ever used a sling with a leather cord instead of a woven one? I wonder if that would make it more effective.

King David didn't know how to kill Goliath when he first started using the sling...with practice and time he learned how...

I can barely hit the broad side of a barn. I keep trying though.

If you are interested in making a plaited sling, Lindybeige has a great video on how to make one. His is a staff sling, and he covers the subject pretty extensively. Very interesting watch.

I love slings too, and have been using them since I was 14 years old. It takes many years of consistent, focused practice to get accurate with a sling, and I am not accurate yet either. I learned a lot about slings, their use and construction from slinging.org, and I recommend it to those who are interested.

Ever try a staff sling? I find them to be more accurate, plus you can lob some fairly hefty projectiles.
