In this video we explain how to care for your Wisteria Bonsai tree, also known as the Wisteria sinensis or floribunda. Watering, pruning, fertilizing - all these topics are discussed. Keeping a Wisteria Bonsai alive is not a difficult task, but there are a few things you should be aware of. For more information, also check:

Bonsai trees are planted in small pots with minimal space for water and nutrient reserves. That means you need to water and fertilize your tree regularly. Make sure your Bonsai gets plenty of light, water, and fertilize when needed and your tree is sure to thrive!

If you are not entirely sure about your tree species, you can use this guide to ID your Bonsai:

The University of Minnesota created a hybrid that's wonderful for colder climates, like zone 4b, called Blue Moon Wisteria. I picked one up from a big box store last year as raw stock. Has much smaller flowers, but are a wonderful powdered blue. Absolutely recommend it to anyone in a chilly environment!

I have some "Blue Moon" wisteria, and I am lucky to have flowers after 3 years! All my wisteria grown from seeds from the mother plant not from online purchased seeds.

Bought a purple amethyst wisteria frutescens that has blooms on it. Removed the trellis, trimmed it up, already a great triple trunk or raft style. Left the few growing tips with the racemes. Everything else was cut back. In a few years it'll be a cool bonsai.

Payed 30$ for it at Walmart. Of all places, they had something interesting and actually worth it. I will need to do alot of rootwork, n a new pot, but it's the start of a wonderful tree.

This is great, thank you! I collected a mature specimen in the spring and really have no idea how to proceed with care or styling.

Thank you for another fine bonsai video🌳 @Bonsai Empire!
Can you please tell me about the type of soil you use for the Wisteria bonsai?

I've found on your blog the following recipe for deciduous trees: 50% akadama, 25% pumice, 25% lava stone.
However, given that Wisteria needs more watering then i.e. maple, how did you update the soil mix?

Hi, i have some wisteria bonsai. It´s very important to put a shallow bowl filled with water under the bonsaipot. Wisteria needs a lot of water.

I have a wisteria plant but I don’t know what size it should be and if I should let it grow for the trunk to grow thick or start now

How do you get the trunks to get so thick but short? Do you major prune and cut the stem of a year old really short?

I thought there should be some information on flowering. Feed your wisteria with some fruit/flowering liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks when flower buds start to swell in late winter/early spring. Good feeding with a low nitrogen fertilizer and sun helps reduce leaf size in spring and summer.

There are a few species that I cannot keep alive no matter how many times I try, bougainvillaea and wisteria are two of them.

How do you get the trunk so thick early?

it’s 36-40°C outside in the summer here. I've some japanese wisteria seedlings. I am not sure if they can withstand the intense heat

Not sure if using months as timings as I would say this is a global audience, and I think you are saying "cut back in July", but you may mean end of winter?

Wisteria is also highly invasive in some climates (like southern North America), and can seed out of cultivated pots/gardens, so maybe make sure that is acknowledged. It's a beautiful vine though! I hate that it is so pretty yet can strangle some trees.

He looks familiar, but he looks really young. Must be an older but educational video 📹
