How to grow Wisteria from seed

In this video I'm showing you how to grow Wisteria from seed and discuss all the steps I took from seed to 3 week old Wisteria seedlings. So if you were wondering how to germinate Wisteria seeds this video illustrates the process.

I got several Wisteria seed pods from a Chinese wisteria (Wisteria sinensis) which I want to germinate and eventually grow into a Wisteria Bonsai. The approach of growing Wisteria Bonsai from seed is certainly not the fastest way to do it but the fact that the Wisteria plant is a vigorous grower should speed up the process.

Germinating Wisteria seeds is easy and, as you will see in the video, the germination rate is very high. No wonder this species is an invasive one. You just have to hydrate the seeds by keeping them in water for a few days and then keep them in a humid environment. Once the seeds have germinated you can plant them in containers or directly in your garden while making sure the soil they're planted in does not dry out. When planting directly in the ground you should make sure you select the right place to grow wisteria plants since they are vigorous climbers and may get out of control if not constantly maintained.

I was given 2 pods and forgot them in the car! Of course they popped out in all directions! While vacuuming I found the seeds, pooped them into a jar of water and hoping they will sprout. Your video gave me hope that they might sprout after being in the car for a month or two! Thanks!

I think it’s wonderful that you give step-by-step instructions on how to germinate the osteria seeds.
I followed your procedure now that they have all sprouted. I have put them into the potting soil and now I’m just waiting. I will send pictures once they start to grow. Thank you very much. Great help watching your video. I followed your method of soaking for about 36 hours and keept inside the air tight jar, and letting air inside every 12 hours. And I'm amazed it sprouted very quickly. thanks for the video

Many thanks for this very informative video. I got a Wisteria seed kit for myself and unfortunately it did not sprout. I followed the instructions but my seed rotted.
