Many moons ago, old tires were getting shredded for children's playgrounds, as an alternative to wood chips or gravel. Allegedly a lightening strike ignited a playground with shredded tires and it was very difficult to put out, so they're no longer used.

Okay. The only issue I have with this mess is that the tires are actually fully recyclable. Steel belts can be removed, refined, and the metal repurposed for other items. The actual rubber can be shredded down into pebbles or even melted down. The pebbles/shredded rubber is great for playground substrate to keep the kids from getting hurt or as a replacement for keeping dust down on dirt roads. It can be used for drainage in landscaping and even makes a pretty decent roofing material when combined with a good glue or melted rubber (other recycled tires). Also, fill in potholes with a combo of shredded tires, gravel, and tar or melted rubber. Gravel on top. It lasts much longer than the way it's done right now!

I live in Iraq and just 5 hours ago we were experiencing the weirdest weather, it's a mix of cloudy foggy and dark, the air smelled so bad it made me sick, I can't even breathe in properly. The city almost had a lockdown because of the toxic air.
