“The more you sweat in times of peace the less you bleed in times of war”

So I'm a first year senior high school wrestler and the conditioning was just annihilating me day in and day out and I was constantly tired and hungry and just sore all over my body for the first like 2 months, the thought of quitting and knowing all the discomfort can be over at any point was almost always there and I almost did. Until I heard you talking about staying on the "war path" and some of your other inspirational stuff and I decided to keep on going, I'm now at a point where 30-35 sprints means nothing to me and my endurance has grown exponentially. I have some of the best endurance on the team and my bridge is now easily the best out of everyone (that's them talking not me). I've gotten done with my 2 hour practice and been ready for more. Thanks Jocko for helping me stay off the easy path, the down hill path, the path of least resistance and keeping me on the uphill path, the righteous path, thanks for keeping me on the war path.

Thanks Jocko! I was burnt out from anime but after hearing your words, I forced myself to watch it. Now I'm back in the grind!

Really appreciate the honesty here. Being burnt out is real. Being burnt out is ‘not’ depression or laziness. Thank you 🙏🏽

Best line I read in a magazine at the police academy library thirty years ago. “Burnout is a self-inflicted injury”.

If burnout begins to creep in, it’s time for self examination. It has served me well. I ain’t done yet.

What you guys talked about didn't sound like burnout. Perhaps mildly so at worst.
After 30 years and well over 3 million miles trucking. Working, more or less 70 to 90 hours a week away from home. I quit my job. Went to the Doctor and started to put myself first. I had never done that before. I gave until there was nothing left to give. I didn't work hardly at all for 2 years. It was if I couldn't bring myself to get back into another truck. I tried to retrain for different work. It didn't turn out very well. I tried to open a small business. Government contracts fell through. People would ask me "what have you been doing lately?" Witch really means why aren't you doing anything? In laws made fun of me. Said I was a Bum and I was sponging off of my wife. Of course unlike them. I dont ride credit, I only had monthly Bill's and I saved my money so I had some time available to me. After 2 years the elderly neighbors came over and asked my wife is Mike ok? And what might they do to help. They were the first people to ask about me who weren't Doctors. I will always be Grateful for them simply asking. Burnout is when you won't or mostly can't get up out of your chair even if your world falls down around you. That is true burnout.

Relaxing and recovering is a skill, a balance you have to learn. I'm a highly motivated go go go type and after suffering from burn out and exhaustion to the point of not being able to focus on simple conversation I had to step back and add down time to my "things to do list". Sleep must be prioritized just like your active training.

I too force myself to work even if I feel burned out. Usually the feeling passes in a few days and you feel great knowing that you got through it and made that money.

Kudos to all my fellow truckers. This is honestly our biggest struggle. One day off a week or none for months. But hey some one has to keep this economy running.

I love that mind set!! Its fought for everyday, I hate not being active now, I use to sit at home and watch tv and throw hours away now I think about taking a rest day and I gives me anxiety. I cant help but see the missed opportunities money I could be making this man David Goggin and several others have changed my life. Keep pushing friends!!

Update: Running more! The colder weather has me sprinting shorter distances. No more pain as of right now. Job interview next week so I'm rescheduling the doctors appointment.

Expect nothing less from Jocko! If you don't feel like it, do it anyway! Glad he does take the signals if the "burnout" persists. Great advice
