Drummer: Permission to swing, sir.
Leader: Denied. As you were, sergeant.

Oh man...they might be the Ambassadors, but they, especially the drummer, play like "if I make a mistake, staff seargent is going to kick my ass". Feel it man!!

“I was in the army”
“Oh really? So was I. Where were you deployed?”
“Brass Section. What about you?”
“Percussion”

Me: “be like me, son. Join the army.”
Son: “That’s awesome dad did you kill people?”
Me: “nah just that drum solo”

As a jazz trombonist, whenever the band you're playing in is tight and makes no mistakes, there's that sense of "dang we're pretty good", and then we go on to the next chart. We don't have to smile, but we feel proud of ourselves when we do a good job. It's enjoyable in a humble way.

Staff Sgt Anderson is a solid drummer, pity they did not play the extended version with a longer solo.

The irony of a highly regimental group playing music that was originally meant to swing and not follow any rules

That face the drummer makes at the end so perfectly captures that feeling of subtle pride. Every time I lose enthusiasm to practice my drums I watch this video, and just dream of being able to reach a position where I'm that good.

I've heard A LOT versions of this song, but Staff Sgt. Wes Anderson absolutely killed it. He kept it so and mellow, like a calm heartbeat.

This isn't Jazz! This is Big Band! Swing! My parents and uncle were raised during the era. This song was pure Benny Goodman and no one could play clarinet like he could. My late father idolized him. He squeaked though on clarinet which I still have and it's over 80 years old now. We saw Benny Goodman in concert in 1975 and I was in awe and dad was in absolute heaven to see his idol in person. My parents and uncle were born in the 20's and 30's. My two grand fathers their music was Scott Joplin and when dad heard Ragtime he was hooked. Dad had all the original records he collected as a kid. Goodman, Glenn Miller, all the singers of the 40's. The records were large and heavy. They would've been worth thousands today had they not been stolen by movers when my father got sick with cancer. Sing, Sing, Sing is my favorite Benny Goodman.

These guys all play so well, it’s just a shame that all the fun was taken out of this piece. This is a jazz/swing drummers dream to be able to play this song with a big band and to play it so low key had to be gut wrenching.
