There are two people in war respected and admired by their enemies.
One was Rommel.
The other was Saladin.

Having known personally gen patton’s son, another army flag officer, I can imagine how the first General Patton was—a real SOB. George junior had significant boots to fill, and simply could not measure up.

If Montgomery was that predictable why did rommel lose to Montgomery in every engagement? Patton never met Rommel on the battle field

One of the greatest generals of all time! My uncle fought in Bren gun carriers and Matildas against his Panzers and Pak88’s and the famous Afrika Corp.

It was Montgomery that defeated Rommel not Patton. From El Alamein to Tunis. At Normandy it was Montgomery not Patton

Good thing that Germany didn't have more soldiers like Rommel or they would have been much closer to victory.

*The Rommel Papers, by B.H.Liddel-Hart, p.521 Montgomery was in a position to profit by the bitter experience of his predecessors. While supplies on our side had been cut to a trickle, American and British ships were bringing vast quantities on materials to North Africa .Many times greater than either his predecessors had ever had.*

Montgomery's principle was to fight no battle unless he knew for certain that he would win it .Of course that is a method which will only work given material superiority - but that he had. Command of a mobile battle force was not his strong point. British officers made the error off planning operations according to what was strategically desirable, rather than what was tactically attainable."

If Monty was "predictable" then why did Rommel NEVER defeat him?

You should also count the number of soldiers that were killed in their operations. The one that achieves victory is the least number of soldiers killed. For me this is the biggest Victor. Pyrrhic the victories aren't good.

Monty shouldn’t have had a much of a say as he did. Pattons strategic mind ran circles around Monty. As Rommel politely stated.
