Brings back memories of watching this movie with my Grandfather. He served under Patton. He enjoyed this movie, and laughed at this scene.

This scene was both serious and funny when I saw it. To say culture shock is an understatement.

George Scott was the single best actor for this roll

I remember I had to do an essay about Patton in elementary school and I never told my parents until a day or two prior. My father then went to blockbuster and rented Patton so we could watch it together :)

I love this scene so much -- more than anything else for the range of emotions on the poor interpreter's face. He's got to be thinking, "I will be remembered and cursed as the man who translated the start of World War Three"...

Amazing! I once saw a performance of the Red Army Choir, they were singing and dancing like that. Russians know how to party!

I've seen this happen several times, two complete ass holes that hate each other with a passion but respect nobody else but each other because they're honest about what they are.

It's a great scene when it comes to displaying authority. Especially when he's someone representing the preservation of America's beliefs and citizens. Patton's attitude says, "I will show my respect towards you, but I'm not your buddy. Don't overstep your boundaries, my friend."

I hate how the Soviets were supposed to be seen as off putting here. The soviet soldiers just got done fighting in a war that had destroyed their homeland and had killed tens of millions of Soviets. They were probably so over joyed by the victory of the Red Army over the Nazis that they couldn't contain themselves.

Hitler brought two rivals together. Under no other circumstance would Christian capitalist America ally with the communists. The only other time I can think of was when the US drew closer to Communist China after the Sino Soviet split. America saw Communist China as a partner against the Soviets. For those outside the US Patton's response embodied what many Americans thought.

Zhukov hated Stalin as much as Patton did. (not a communist myself...but they had a lot in common).

This scene is so symbolic of the future relationship to come. As they both watched each other as they drink. Full of distrust.

Oh Patton how right you were about the USSR.

And history has shown that Patton was right!

Two points. General Mikhail Katukov was no softy but a tough son of bitch who fought from the winter defense of Moscow, through Stalingrad, to Prague and VE day. In terms of expertise in mechanized warfare he was the equal of Patton and Rommel.

My father heard in Pilsen that Patton wanted to push the Soviets out of Czechoslovakia. His outfit might have mutinied. American troops had enough of blood and iron. The war was over and time to go home. Besides attacking Russian forces while Japan remained to be defeated was insane.
