He never specified that the puppet *had* to be one of the sock ones strewn about, and he *did* in fact crack the laptop right open—you can see the internals right as he steps on it. Dick move, sure, but that’s on Dipper for making assumptions of what Bill meant and not reading the fine print of the deal.
