Ritalin is supposed to help you focus, but you can't exactly control what you'll focus on.

Because of Kat Williams, my Mother is NOT on Seroquel. I heard him talk about that drug two years before my Mom got sick. The Doc came in the room and said Seroquel and I stood STRAIGHT up and said, would you say that again. I'll make a long story short. I called that doctor out in the hallway of the hospital, and when we came back in the room the word Seroquel was no longer a part of his remedy. My Mom is 95 soon to be 96, and still has her memory in tact. These doctor can Kiss My Black ASHY Elbows. I did not allow them to lock her mind down. My Mother still supervises the amount of butter we bake in pies. LMAO!! She is a BLESSING!! I was at Kat's show a few weeks ago in Charlotte NC. Out Freaking RAGOUS. He cut UP!!

His truth-telling is what always keeps him in trouble, it may be just comedy, but he exposes a lot of things going on. Keep speaking the truth bruh.

i used to have ritalin for my ADHD.. just like he said.. you can put me down somewhere and after 5 hours i will still be there... that stuff is not something i would recommend to a kid with ADHD...  the gym is a better option..  treadmill or a bike

I don't care about Kat's issues in life. He's always been one of my favorite comedians. He is funny as hell.

I had that exact same experience with ritalin as a kid. When I was on ritalin, all I would do was lay on the couch, because I had zero energy. Then they put me on risperdal when I was in high school, which clouded my mind up, so I did poorly in all of my classes. Luckily, I went off of all of that shit right before college, and it was like the world suddenly popped into focus and I could see for miles, after living in a fog for years.

Katt is 100% on point and i want to give some insight as someone who knows how the pharma industry works. Drugs are like keys, that fit into little locks (receptors) in your brain. there are different types of locks that have different effects when a key goes in them. the more "snug" the key fits, the more powerful the effect of the lock. right? there's immediately an issue. most keys don't fit into just one lock, they fit into a few. we're talking about a handful of atoms here - you can't control the shape exactly, you can just add or take away atoms one at a time. this is why every pharmaceutical has a list of side effects - it fits the right lock with the right snugness, but it'll also go in other locks and cause other effects as well.

so how are new drugs made? we probably know exactly the shape of the lock and design them to perfectly fit? well, no. we only have a good guess about the "shape" we need. what happens is they generate a shit-ton of random keys that fit the general shape, then they test-fit them. if one looks like it has the right snugness in the locks we want, and the side effects aren't terrible, then it starts being tested and eventually brought to market. it's basically pure "throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks".

your behavior and experience as a person is extremely complicated, and the "locks" only have big, general effects. drugs are not surgical, precisely changing some aspect of your behavior. they're making BIG systemic changes to your brain, this unbelievably complex machine nobody understands - AND they're doing a bunch of side effects as well. all of the systems controlled by the locks are extremely complicated, and they all depend on each other; so a change to one changes things in all sorts of places. it's like flipping switches in the Space Shuttle, and none of the switches are labeled. you don't have the manual - maybe you can figure out that the cockpit lights come on if you flip this switch; but another switch might look like it does nothing, and then smoke starts coming out of the floor.

we DON'T understand drugs as well as the pharma industry pretends they do, and we DEFINITELY don't understand mental health as well as the psychiatric field says they do. even in cases of well-studied and well-understood drugs, we often find out down the line that they have unforeseen effects we didn't understand before. when it comes to many drugs, antipsychotics are a good example, these can be hugely damaging if prescribed to someone who's not having the right issue. the issue is that psychs and doctors are trained to be prescription-happy and will give you a powerful drug with far-reaching effects on your mind, without thinking twice, because it's the first-line treatment. "the kid is too hyper? it's ADHD. give him ritalin." "the kid's suicidal? he's depressed. give him zoloft." etc, etc. a lot of the time it's like trying to fix your computer with a pipe wrench.

the takeaway isn't that drugs are evil or bad but that they're POWERFUL and the medical industry will happily put you in a whack-a-mole situation where you're given a drug that fixes X, but then it creates issues with Y, Z, A, and B. drugs can be incredibly helpful or even necessary for people depending on their situation but they should be treated with respect. educate yourself and advocate for yourself.
