The sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff resulted in a greater loss of life than the sinkings of the Titanic, Britannic, and the Lusitania put together and still it receives so little attention.
I designed this 42" model to sink like the Gustloff did, and I hoped i would be able to get at least 15 minutes of footage, but it sank a lot quicker than I hoped. The actual Wilhelm Gustloff took about an hour to sink. I hope you still enjoy the video:)

The WW2 period sinking are perhaps the very darkest of dark moments in maritime history. I am the author of a novel that dealt with the sinking of the RMS Lancastria and I am haunted by that experience to this day by what I had learned in the research. What shocked me the most about this video is that somehow, without people or the other drama of the actual movie on this sinking, it captures a horror which I think is accurate. If you were on this ship and experiencing this rapid flooding, it would be a horrible and terrifying event. I think the rapid flooding scenes in this short video captures even better the horror of this sinking than the movie. I sincerely hope that this sinking remains the worst of history, so that we do not have another war that gives us even worse and dark events.

Hello, I am one of the few hundred survivors of the Cardhelm Gustloff. The night of the sinking was the most traumatic experience I've ever witnessed in my life. The subzero temperatures of the Baltic Sea paired with the quick sinking made escaping the lower decks nearly impossible. Thankfully I was one of the first onto the lifeboat deck. After the trauma me and the survivors have faced we're suing the CCL (Cardbordia Cruise Lines) for the recklessness that caused the 9, 000 deaths in this disaster.
