In today’s video we cover the possible shapes of complex ions. We’ll look at the octahedral shapes, where the complex ion consists of six co-ordinate bonds formed using monodentate ligands, the tetrahedral shapes, where the complex ion consists of four co-ordinate bonds and the square planar formed by cisplatin. We’ll go through each one and present their 3d structure and explain how to represent the bonds. In conclusion, we’ll look at an exam style question.
