They're not SELLING your data. It's MUCH worse...

It says on the Big G's website:
‘We do not sell your personal information to anyone’”

The truth is, they ARE SHARING your personal and sensitive information, and being compensated handsomely in return. But what’s ACTUALLY going on in this exchange is far WORSE that you can possibly imagine.

I chat with Bennett Cyphers from EFF, and Johnny Ryan from the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, about what is actually being done with your personal information and real-time location data.

I had a hunch that 'not selling' wasn't the same thing as 'not sharing' but nothing so explicit and concrete as what you've shared here, Naomi. Really appreciate you and what you share here. Thanks!

"The truth is, they ARE SHARING your personal and sensitive information..."

No, they are BROADCASTING your personal and sensitive information, that is far worse!

What an awesome video and awesome people who are taking the time to fully expose all this - Hat Tip to them for their dedication

Interesting to see they are younger folk exposing this too - so much for the notion of the younger generation not caring and sharing everything

Truth is not enough people care about privacy.

HOLY CRAP are they EVER blowing it on the ads sent to my pages! How the hell they "supposedly" have such a good idea what I am all about, and then mess up so badly, shows this is no more than a random guess process! Being pragmatic, THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ME!

Ad blockers and blacklisting. Just think of clicking ads as the same thing as downloading a virus. NEVER do it.

This is as eye-opening as it is outrageous, thank you, another big battle for our privacy ahead of us.

It's so important that we all understand this. It seems like it's veiled behind a cloud of secrecy, that people individually feel too unsavvy technologically to be justified in arguing against this, they are too distracted by the conveniences and personal benefits and aren't willing to acknowledge the risks. Those risks are ultimately the creation of the kind of dystopian world that many intelligent people and experts have been warning would diminish the value of our human/social existence. We will each become a homogenous cog in a machine.

There needs to be far more pushback over websites alone, the opt out available in the EU/UK are impenetrable. Some of them are very devious, even to deal with the flagged cookies and vendors, can take multiple menus, hundreds of clicks, then there is no way of knowing if your data has been used, shared, viewed, stolen.

Google is not a tech company they're an advertising agency. I have never seen an ad on a website and purchased something because of it. I completely ignore the ads. To ensure that I don't support them I won't buy anything from an ad that I saw online. I'll make sure it has the opposite effect on me.

Great post Naomi. Thanks so much for sharing this information here. I'm always learning something I should know here. You are a Rock Star. 💛🤩⭐

Perhaps we should have laws that requires those companies to pay you each time they share any piece of information about you.

To me there are a lot of ironies here. How many countries are not allowing Huawei cell equipment because they "might be sharing information with the Chinese government" when all the other companies are collecting so much information about us and sharing it seemingly with practically anyone... and I have heard in many cases governments that simply ask?

Fact is, advertising worked without all this personalized data, so anyone that says that's the way it bas to be, is either lying or badly misinformed. Ban personlized/ interest based advertising and I bet you, we will see a less fractured western society. I guarantee it.

It would likely be a surprise - to catalog companies and their apps that utilize private information generated by daily use - say certain popular chat / videoconferencing programs, etc. - in order to help companies train or refine their A.I. efforts. A really big concern is the seeming behind-the-scenes mass gathering of healthcare data by a particular high-tech, likely in order for them to compete with one of the old guard companies who may have followed the privacy and gathering rules. I've noticed HIPPA has been all-but-forgotten the past couple of years. In any case - a couple of bits to stir some thoughts. Really enjoy your channel - Cheers ..

Thanks for the info Naomi. For a second i felt we are doomed. 😬
But immediately after, i reminded my self, i can do my part on this.
So if each does their own, this should hopefully dry this fiasco, and the world could possibly be much better. 😊

We should expect profit based companies to seek to collect and sell *all* data possible (to "enhance value to shareholders"). Trust nothing.

Good video and one that I'll be sharing.

Naomi is good at talking in simple language, often when I talk to people about online privacy they glaze over, not because they disagree but because they don't understand.

Thanks Naomi.

Ultimately we are heading for a society that controls everything we do. The only way we remain free is what Naomi and others are telling us. Knowledge is power.
