The Education 20/20 speaker series, sponsored by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute and the Hoover Institution, aims to fill a void in the education reform conversation. Over the course of the 2018–19 school year, prominent writers, intellectuals, and policymakers will provide compelling answers to the age-old question, “What's the purpose of school?”

For part four of our series, Ian Rowe and Michael Barone discuss education during the Cold War-era, the impact family structure groupings can have on students' performance and how American education can embrace disadvantaged students without squandering the potential of gifted students.
