As a British person and native English speaker, saying “let’s go drink a coffee” is a completely normal thing to say….

America isn’t the only place that speaks English. As an immigrant myself I learned people from different places have their own habit of pronunciation and different word choices. If a native English person laughs at what you say, it probably suggests that the person is too local to understand different tones. Don’t forget, languages nowadays are all using words from other countries, such as sushi, unagi, tofu, lasagna, etc. if they can’t pronounce those words precise, why should you pronounce English the way some expect you to.

I’ve seen some of your videos and I feel like you’re instilling a lot of unnecessary fear into non native English speakers. These days “sounding American” is so arbitrary as there are so many different people here now. That’s the beauty of the melting pot. If anyone is watching these videos because they are worried about not sounding American enough, honestly do not even worry about it. You’re doing great and anyone with half a brain will understand you perfectly

If somebody says “let’s go drink some coffee, ” I’m not gonna think too much about it.

I literally never say “grab coffee” — you “grab a bite to eat”, but you “get coffee”.

Note from a native speaker: you can replace a lot of verbs and phrases with the appropriate form of "to get" or "to get some" and get away with sounding very natural

While this generally is correct, don’t be too worried about sounding “like a Native American”. English is a hell language, it’s insanely adaptable, and your way of saying it is just fine if people can understand you. This isn’t to say you should stop learning, because learning a language is constant (I still learn more about the language as I get older), but please don’t overwhelm yourself with little details like this. I promise these kinds of things will come to you

I have taught my students that way. "Drink some coffee" there is nothing wrong with that. That's how Filipino English is, but we don't push our students to sound like native speakers. I would say students excel in their academic or formal English.

Baby girl, no, just no.

Imagine wanting to sound more American over wanting to sound more British. As a native speaker you can say both, and people will understand.
