Theorists, we need to talk about @tryguys situation and by that I mean the mainstream media coverage of it. See, I think the Try Guys handled the situation with professionalism. You know who didn't? The media making fun of them for being YouTubers. That SNL skit? Not a good look. So, let's talk about all of it.

not to mention that it was mentioned in the trypod, keith was on tour with his band and eugene was working on other projects which effectively left zach, a chronically ill man, alone to deal with this for 2 or so weeks. ned literally put not only his company at risk, but his friends and family. zach mentioned that during that time he was stressed and was in *severe* pain.

It's crazy how the media will NEVER talk about actual toxic content creators and will instead thrown gasoline at an ember

The try guys were honest, open and frank. Completely unlike any other company that has been caught in a scandal like this. It’s telling that big corporations are trying to punch down like this

Came here because Keith mentioned this video on the podcast and he's absolutely right. He covered it better than any news outlet out there.

After the sketch aired, Becky (Keith’s wife) remembered that Ned had a friend that became a SNL writer. Dan Bulla. They both were in a comedy group called Warm Milk, and it just so happens Dan was working on the scripts for this season of SNL…and he did the script for the Try Guys skit.

Matpat somehow manages to be the old guy and the young guy on the internet at the same time. In a very positive way - the bridge we didn't deserve, but needed

Matt missed the best part, how one of the people that wrote the SNL skit is a friend of Ned's from Yale and a lot of people believe that Ned was the one that thought up the idea to get his friend to trash the other guys to take the heat off of Ned but he forgot that he name dropped said friend on an episode of The Try Pod as Will Stephen.

I’m 53, my husband is 58. We love the Try Guys. I’ve been watching since the beginning. Our 17 yr olds watch them with us. The media coverage is BS. SNL pissed me off so badly. I’m so happy you did this video!

It amazes me how this scandal can be so badly portrayed. The Try Guys actions were basically the perfect example of how to handle this type of situation. As soon as they were aware of the problem the worked continuously behind the scenes to solve it the correct and legal way and when it finally started to gain attention in the public domain made a video explaining the situation and explaining what they did and why before the story was twisted too much by speculation.

Keith, Zach, and Eugene handled this issue better than any company has handled any controversy in YEARS.

snl and the new york times really thought they did something. It's disgusting to see how they're essentially protecting ned. I'm so proud of Keith, Zach, Eugene, and all the employees.

You already know it’s a problem when Mat has to take a seat on the couch and talk to the camera

I find it even more odd that one of Ned’s friends is a writer on SNL. Seems interesting to make a piece that doesn’t include the person at fault, especially since they’re friendly with SNL crew

This is why Matt and Steph are the teachers to new businesses. Not only a content creator and teacher but also a businessman with ethics and morals. "Old man matpatt " is an industry veteran that Youtube and other organizations should listen to and use as references in business altogether. Thank you for the in depth news and clarification mat.

Keith, Eugene, and Zach all revealed on their podcast that Ned is actually really good friends with journalists and people at places like SNL. They kind of hinted that Ned used his connections with them to make the articles you’ve mentioned, so if it seems like SNL and the Times are defending Ned, that’s because they are and their wrong take on the situation was a conscious attempt at making Ned look better

I also think part of the reason SNL made the try guys the villain instead of Ned is because Ned has friends who are writers in the show, and they didn’t want to make him look bad

It's not often MatPat gets genuinely upset and pissed, but when he does, you know it's something very bad.

I really appreciate how well you explained why Ned was fired. Not because he had an affair, but because he was sleeping with someone he had power over and without certain legal protections it can get really messy and end very badly for the company. Best to let him go and move on.

One more comment: As a woman, I am so proud of The Try Guys and the way they handled this. They could have kept quiet and pretended to know nothing about the whole thing, but they stepped up and dealt with it. It reminds me of one of my all-time favorite movie lines, “Love is love, but business is business.” (Auntie Vera, from the movie ‘Secret of My Success’).
