Small dogs like chihuahuas are usually hated because of having terrible owners who won't train them and socialize them correctly. Some owners may not even respect their boundaries because " oh their small so it's okay" when it isn't.

In my personal opinion, as a chihuahua owner, it is the fault of the irresponsible owners. Not the chihuahuas. If you got attacked by a chihuahua, it might have been the owner who has given them poor training and socialization.

I had a chihuahua as my own for 12 years until she sadly passed away. She is still my best friend, I miss her everyday. I was brought up around Staffordshire bull terriers, which I have to say is the number 1 best dog breed for personality and love, but from all the dogs I’ve been around. Nothing will ever come close to my Chihuahua, she really was 1 of a kind. So loyal, and honestly the most gorgeous Animal I’ve ever seen.

Everyone talks down on Chihuahuas but I really believe the reason so many people have issues with them is because of lack of training. I got my first December 2021 and he is the sweetest boy and so well behaved!

Bostons have a lot of health issues. Had two of them and they had all of the problems. One went blind and had a lot of other health issues. The other one had ear and hip issues. Also they stuggle breathing a lot due to their noses and can't go for too long due to poor stamina. They need average temperatures and stuggle a lot in extreme heat and cold.

Loved those doggos to death but they had so many issues. They need a lot of care too that gets overlooked because they're seen as "easy" to care for. Have great personality, though, and can be great with other dogs if socialized, kids and even other animals!

Boston’s are the best! My mother had one while I was a child. He lived to be 16 yo. The most human pup I’ve seen. Thank you for your training advice I have a Bull boxer pup that I have trained using your technique and he is doing very well so far.

Definitely the Tibetan spaniel
From my experience they’re chill fairly light, independent dogs who will happily snuggle on it’s own terms, they have awesome coats and are exited to meet new people although they can be a bit jumpy and catlike

I used to own bigger dogs but my body won't allow it anymore. I ended up with my first Chi in 2014 (a rescue) and she really did change my life. She's such a wonderful, dumb, annoying, loving, silly dog that I can't imagine a life without her. So much personality, highly intelligent, and super sweet if treated like a dog and not a child. I have another one that is so friendly that she does wonderful around strangers and kids.

I have a lovely chihuahua. She completely changed all my assumptions based on no information whatsoever of Chihuahuas. I have had her since a pup and was very conscious that I wanted her to be a 'dog' and not a 'princess', treating and training her as a dog. They key is training and early socialisation.

She is amazing, so loving and friendly to all people and animals. I can take her anywhere, she likes to be close to me but is also quite independent and has no separation anxiety. She is a lot of fun, sassy and just an amazing little dog. The only thing I haven't yet mastered is her love of barking at anything she hears in the back yard or sees walking by. She only barks in the home environment so I think its a protective thing. It's a training work in progress although she is an amazing little watch dog.

I just adore chihuahuas now!

My favorite small breed is a Belgium Schipperke shepherd dog. It’s the small version of a Groenedaeler shepherd but in a small package! I just love shepherds.

The best dog we ever had hands down was a cast-off schitzu/pom X

We were his third owners. He was exceptional with my four kids & our ex-show Australian Silkie Terrier (another entire story). Even tempered, playful, intelligent, able to be dressed up, wheeled around, slide, hide, you name it. We were absolutely devastated when we lost him to a brown snake and have not owned small dogs again due to the risk where we live. He did go down fighting. We found him alongside a brown snake in four pieces. My kids first real experience with death of someone close - he was a someone. RIP Sammy

I'm so thankful my family's chihuahua was so patient with my sisters and me when we were young. He's now tired, very old (17), and nearly blind, but he's still the intelligent, silly dog I grew up with.
