Russians I have met have a great (often dry) sense of humor. I could imagine them operating this transmitter just to drive the western world (namely USA) crazy to spend time and money to figure out what it is, when the joke is on us, and they are sipping vodka and laughing.

It's probably a lottery for the Russian millitary

maybe the buzz is to prevent other radio stations to use this frequency.

5th January 2017:
The Buzzer had a strange interuption and made beeping noises for several minutes 1:30 - 1:45 GMT - Berlin. Then it went silent for 2 Minutes and started Buzzing again

Some dummy working at the station a while back left the television on in the background. You could hear the commercial for an up coming horror movie, haha. I am sure working at such a place is REALLY boring.

Probably used to contact Russian submarines around the Nordic region to confirm Finland hasn't surrendered to become part of Russia again.

What I think the buzzer is is basically a beacon for the spies that use the station to get codes. They look at the spectrogram and see that distinct pattern of the buzzer, and can tune in without having to memorize the frequency, maybe so if they are captured they wouldn't know what the frequency was and will most likely be unable to be used to interpret the messages. For the place looking so abandoned, most likely that same guy who lists off the codes comes in only when he has to, which isn't often.

It's a distress signal from a guy that has been left behind for over thirty years in an old plutonium mining shaft. He says he doesn't know how he is still alive nor how he is broadcasting the signal. All he knows is that he has rashes all over his body and can pick up radio signals through his dental fillings.

Thank you for the interesting details. I have been a licensed Radio Amateur since 1980 & regularly heard the buzzer also the Woodpecker signal which regularly intruded into the amateur 40m band causing much annoyance to Radio Amateur. The Buzzer is undoubtedly of Russians military importance. Who knows if we will ever find out it's true function. Thanks again.
