This Secret Russian Radio Station Could Trigger WWIII (UVB-76)

There’s a mysterious radio signal that’s been broadcasting since the 1970s that sounds like repeating buzzing with occasional russian voices. It’s long been thought to be a Russian KGB spy channel, or a dead hand signal that if silenced could trigger the start of WWIII. But it gets weirder.

Earlier this year it started broadcasting popular music like Gangam Style, or sounds that when analyzed under spectrograph look like memes.

So who… or what… is behind this mysterious station?

You cant "Hijack" a radio signal. Only transmit over it.

It's not part of the dead hand system (although the PERIMETER system is very real and likely still used by the Russian Federation today). It went offline for a brief period in 2010 (associated with the restructuring of the Russian military at the same time) and nuclear armageddon didn't happen. We can glean from the messages and through triangulation of the source of the radio signal that it's military in nature. Most likely it's a way to send out commands to the military and the "buzzer" is simply a channel marker. It discourages other people from using the channel and allows operators to know they're listening to the right frequency. There are actually a suite of stations with similar formats and that have bled over onto each other despite being on very different frequencies (implying that they originate at the same location). These include the Goose, the Air Horn, the Squeaky Wheel, and the Pip. They're not truly numbers stations like the KGB (and subsequently the FSB) would use. It's more akin to the USAF's High Frequency Global Communication System (HFGCS) which sends messages to strategic assets.

I remember EAS in the past got Hijacked by UVB-76 couldve been from interference from a Lightning strike causing the UVB-76 The Buzzer to Trigger on Television in 2010
