I made the story of Maya Hart and Shawn Hunter [S1 - S3] because I feel like their progression as characters is SO VERRRYYY IMPORTANT !

Shawn was so broken and so was Maya, them being dad and daughter was just meant to be, and the way he got so protective was so cute and oml the show should have never been canceled

I just realized that in her painting, all the colors are being hidden by the purple cat(Riley) dominating over them until the thing you see is only purple

I was so happy to see Shawn marry Maya's mom the way it went with Angela always pissed me off. They do that big episode of Angela crying and stuff due to being scared of leaving and hurting Shawn and the second her father comes around she just bailed on him.. Guess she was right in the long run she knew she was gonna leave him..

These two characters and the dynamic betwen them is the most beautiful thing disney ever did

This was the arc that defined this series. The show ostensibly about cory and topanga and their kids, but what I think they realized is the emotional heart of the show was Maya and Shawn and their healing of each other which led to Shawn falling in love with Katy. This show I think would’ve had longer legs if it focused a bit more on maya and Katy.

Honestly I love this storyline, it's realistic and people who didn't grow up with the idyllic family like Cory or Riley did can relate with Shawn and Maya. (This is where it gets personal) like I grew up in a broken home as well, my mom was a nurse and had to work a lot in order to afford things like food and rent all the while taking care of two kids. My bio dad left when I was 3 and I always assumed it was my fault (turns out I was right BTW) that somehow my existence broke a couple who loved each other up and is the reason why my big brother didn't get a dad. Then my mom met my (step) dad, he is the only father I've ever known, he's not perfect but he's all I got. A lot has happened to me in my life and a lot of people have left whether willingly or not they did. So when I see characters like Shawn and Maya and Kate I think how beautiful it is that families like mine can have that Disney happily ever after. Honestly speaking whenever Disney puts out a show like this with a regular happy family the typical American dream I've always found it hard to relate and care deeply about those characters. But seeing this, seeing the more messy and cynical characters find that happiness just brings me to tears

Ugh, that "protecting Maya's father" thing got ME almost as mad as Shawn. If you're busting your butt working shifts to provide for your little girl, trusting her with people who love her like she was their daughter, you deserve some respect, not the guy who left. He isn't a father, just the guy who put the bun in the oven.

4:00 She's sad, because she, and Shaun, have another family that they go to for help. "My dad has another family" to be countered with "I would never let a child grow up like that" means, to her, that her second family is a bad sign, that Shaun being part of that family means he'd be an awful parent if he stayed, and that her father wasn't wrong for leaving her, he was wrong for starting a new family. And that "Oh" is the realization that Maya has a second family, that Shaun is part of that family, and Maya doesn't want him to choose her over them but stay as two families.
