In 2005, I spent a month traveling through the Yucatan peninsula with a Mayan shaman descended from a continuous lineage of Mayan shamans. We visited all the Mayan sites in the Yucatan. Much of his teachings about the cosmology and religious significance of the sites was vastly different from the western colonizer interpretation that is still perpetuated by modern archaeology. In particular, we had a lengthy discussion about the Mayan calendar. To say the west got it wrong is an understatement. Mayans NEVER predicted an "end of the world" in 2012 or in any other time. The shaman explained that, similar to Hindu cosmology, Mayans divided up the flow of time into 24, 000 year cycles that break down into two 12, 000 year cycles. Each of these is further divided into specific eras. In Vedic cosmology, these eras are called "yugas" and are characterized by specific evolution and devolution of human societies until they degrade entirely and then the cycle begins again with a period of enlightenment. The Mayan calendar simply said that 2012 was the end of a 12, 000 year cycle. Not the end of the world.

This is the limitation of documentarians and archaeologists putting these types of conclusions together without consulting actual Mayan shamans descended from the traditions.

Furthermore, one other conversation with this shaman stood out. While at Chichen Itza, NASA had just taken over the site for further study so the main pyramid was restricted to the public. NASA could study it for decades and never get it right, he said definitively. He said "as long as the west continues to view science and religion as separate things, they will never understand Chichen Itza. And they will never understand the Maya." This fundamental difference in the way western empires of the northern hemisphere, steeped in Abrahamic traditions, treat objective science and subjective science- and along with that, science as a whole and religion- as opposites, is the immovable limitation to understanding other cultures, especially those of the global south. Scholar Rajiv Malhotra wrote an excellent book on this topic, titled "Being Different: An Indian Answer to Western Universalism." For those interested in the subject, I can't recommend this book enough.

The Mayan calendar endowed each specific individual day with a character a personality unique unto itself; just as no two people exactly the same neither was any day ever exactly repeated through out time. Each day had almost it's own consciousness.

Why do people keep calling this a mayan calendar when it was found in Aztec territory and it is still in Aztec territory. Thank you so much for clearing this up in the beginning of the video! It relieved my anxiety..😅.

The Maya’s abuelos teachings were thanks to the Toltecayotl which means living in balance, these teachings were all along the Anahuac or Cen Anahuac or La Cuenca del Anahuac this Cuenca was geographically located from Alaska to Nicaragua passing from Tula that was like the center of the Anahuac.

There was 6 feet dirt in the streets
And one day the englisch began to scoop it out
Because of the stank and all
After that London gets sewers
Maybe there was the dirt from in other cities
Maybe they did not scoop it out and Just lay the sewers in the dirt and thats it

The Aztec calendar was in front by 6 years. The cosmic calendar ended/started in 2007 of our present western calendar.

What if I said I was witness to a great arrival on December 21st 2014 ... the Mayan had the date correct but its the power of those who came here to blind humanity with simple techniques of distraction ... it lasted 7 days and great wonders were seen in the skies and if we never had cell phones and light pollution then we would've all seen this ...

The Maya counted days not years. It ends in 2040 not 2012.
