This is a really great point. Finding out how you can provide that value to a potential mentor is now the next million dollar question. This video gave me a lot of value and much appreciated.

Great advice. Gary is a bit of a special breed in his ability to go beyond. And I would say he may not being defining mentor broadly enough because inevitably he learned a tremendous amount from those around him and through reading (maybe a bad assumption but I assume he reads). Most successful people have had mentors, that's just how it works for many - not all - there are always exceptions! I'm teaching my boys to shoot a basketball, how to treat other people, how to view the world - mentoring them through life. When they want to learn another skill like programming or robotics they'll have to find a teacher, read, watch videos from knowledgeable people. If you're looking for that in-person mentor then bringing value, as Gary suggests, is a fantastic approach! Thanks for the advice Gary!

Youtube, the university of youtube, allows you to reach and watch all your mentors for free, you, warren buffett, charlie munger, mark cuban etc give all the info, and even when you here them giving advise to others, it helps you too, if you are listening.

Although Gary has got great content. I really dislike his way of advising by constantly referring to himself or the people around him. It takes the attention away from the core idea of his advice.

That was the worst possible “how to be mentor” explanation I have ever heard in my life. I’d literally hate to mentored by this individual. Why did he even feel the need to produce this video? It’s useless. That he acknowledged it’s his weakness is the only truth in this garble. It reeks of selfishness, which ironically is the last thing anyone with a brain wants from a mentor.
