I’ve had mine, LP5500, since the week after Hurricane Sandy devoured the mid-Atlantic and New England. Perform 20 minutes run time every month and required maintenance and engine checks. Mine is hot wired into the main circuit panel. Other than difficult to start in winter months, never had a single issue with mine. Reliable, noisy and dependable.

Great video showing the noise level of this generator. One thing, when running the LP generator, you should (per Generac) never run the unit for more than eight hours without performing maintenance on oil, etc. Thus, the maximum tank that Generac recommends is a 30 lb tank, which, depending on your load, gives you about seven to eight hours of run time.

My strong advise is do not buy a generac portable Generator. I have an LP5500 with less than 10 hours running time. I had to replace the propane regulator in January. $300 part. Now with less than 10 minutes run time on regulator it has failed again. Generac does not make or support LP portable generators anymore. There dealers do not want to work on them. They totally dropped them, only care about whole house and commercial units. Get a Chinese one, cheaper and probably more reliable.
