As an European, this tipping system is too crazy…

And you have to calculate the tip AND the tax as well 😮

I don’t tip cab drivers, baristas, takeouts, deli’s, cafes. I only tip bartenders and waiter/waitress that r servicing me. Everyone else gets paid to do their jobs. So nope!

You want me to tip 20 percent for “decent” service…. Good lord

I hate the tip culture in the US. There needs to be a minimum living wage for all employees set by the government.

For a non-US person, this is crazy anxiety-inducing and confusing. Just raise the wage, so people can afford to have a decent life without having to rely on tips and to avoid guilt tripping people.

I live outside the USA, where tips are included in the bill and carrying money is something of the past, because everybody uses debit/credit cards or digital wallets for instant money transfers.... So handling paper money just because of these small tips make me annoyed every time I go to the USA....

The price of literally everything in NYC is extortionate even before this tipping nonsense is added on top. London is equally as expensive to live in as New York but you don't see waiting staff/cab drivers getting tipped 20% for doing a job (that they chose to do). Pay your people properly instead of expecting the public to do it.

Hell no.

I still tip 15% for decent service. Growing up 20% was for amazing service.

And if I get hit with one of thoe 18-20% service charges I'm leaving a $5 bill or whatever few $1 i got left.

lol @ 20%. Prices go up. The old 10% should be the ok.

I'm from NYC most of my life. 15% is suggested for restaurants.

If your under 6 people you can tip what you want.

Over 6 people, the menu usually says you have to pay 15% gratuity. Some restaurants charge a higher percentage. Have waiter sow you before order.

Call me broke but I refuse to do this. Never given anyone a tip over 10% of the total ever in my 22 years of life. Do as you please people but not me, thank you.

I give 20% at the best Bar/Restaurant in Sheepshead Bay called Wheelers. Service is great. Food and drinks . Everything.

I don't live in the US but will be visiting soon. It's so strange to me to tip but do I have too for EVERY service?

Just been to NY for the first time. Absolutely weird to see businesses begging for tips on almost every payment terminal. And I even haven't been to a restaurant 🤪

We were just in new york. Most of the times ordered our food, we got it to our table, we cleaned up afterwards, put the tray back and threw our garbage. And they asked 20% why?To press a button on a screen? 🤡

15% is standard, 20% for very good service.

I don’t believe in service I feel like the restaurant should pay their workers.
