Is faster better? I compared the new Elegoo Neptune 4 with the Prusa MK3S+, and the results were surprising!

Some filaments will behave according to speed and temperature/cooling. I had different surface finish results using metallic PETG filaments (silver/gold).

if it's not shiney then you have not got enough temp for the amount of filament being fed, try upping the temp by 10 degrees and I think you will find it comes out shiney

You need to increase temperature on Neptune to get shine )

These shiny “silk” like filaments usually has some rubber in it helps to build up surface tension and that makes the shiny look, because of this you cannot print these filaments too fast (or you have to change the temperature settings)

As you pointed out in this video, there's a difference . When you are making something (prototype) speed is key, buy after all fixed, then is time for quality

I feel like not enough people do these kinds of videos. Thanks!

Print the one on the Prusia at 195C. You're probably printing at 215C. You also need to mention the filament brand as that will also make a difference. I've never experienced this issue. Probably better to print in PLA+ on high speed printer. They also make high speed filament for high speed printers.

I looked it up, matt finish is with lower temp, faster it goes temp is probably a bit lowered, apparently 205 c makes it mat, 220 glossy

Should also be said how much cheaper the Elegoo Neptune is than those Prusa's

I have noticed that the surface finish of my prints changes with print speed, and not just on my Neptune 4 Pro, although that's the one that gives the most evident results, due to how fast it is. Even in the same print, changing only the printing speed produces noticeably different results. Especially with glossy materials like Silk PLA. I can show you some examples if you like

I'm confused. Was it supposed to be matte or shiny?

lilyvmax

so what caused the difference in the matt and shiny finishes? the temp?

That's always been my way to make glossy PLA into matte PLA, just print much faster.

How's the layer adhesion on the matte model though...

Speed and accurate printing is great for prints that you intend to paint or that you want it took mate finish... or if you don't care because is a functional print.

The shine happens because the filament stays heated in the extruder for longer. At high speeds the filament is extruded quicker, so it looks more matte.

What slicer do you use for the elegoo neptune 4?

Sometimes ya gotta have fast friendly filament I’ve been told. Not sure how true it is but it’s something to consider

Quickly hit the Elegoo print with a micro torch & see if the shine comes back. I'm curious if it's the fast cooling that makes it a mat finish.

When you print fast / high temp, it creates more bubbles if you use that weird filament, or if your filament is moist it boils the water and creates that matte surface.
