'The Prequels RUINED The ENTIRE Star Wars Franchise' DEBUNKED

The Prequels are not a franchise ruiner. Here's why. This is a response to some guy on Twitter.

Trilogy Description
The Star Wars prequel trilogy, colloquially referred to as the prequels, is a series of epic space-opera films written and directed by George Lucas. It was produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and distributed by 20th Century Fox. The trilogy was released from 1999 to 2005 and is set before the original Star Wars trilogy (1977–83), chronologically making it the first act of the Skywalker saga. Lucas had planned a prequel trilogy (as well as a sequel trilogy) before the release of the original film, but halted major Star Wars films beyond the original trilogy by 1981. When computer-generated imagery (CGI) had advanced to the level he wanted for the visual effects he wanted for subsequent films, Lucas revived plans for the prequels by the early 1990s. The trilogy marked Lucas's return to directing after a 22-year hiatus following the original Star Wars film in 1977, as well as a 16-year hiatus between the classic and prequel trilogies.

The trilogy consists of Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). The films follow the training of the powerful youth Anakin Skywalker (the father of the original trilogy protagonists Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa) as a Jedi under the tutelage of Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, his fall to the dark side of the Force and rebirth as Darth Vader. The trilogy also depicts the corruption of the Galactic Republic, the annihilation of the Jedi Order, and the rise of the Empire under the secret Sith Lord and future Galactic Emperor Palpatine. The first two films received mixed reviews, while the third's reception was more positive.

The Prequels didn't ruin the franchise. Prequel HATE ruined the franchise. The "Star Wars was dead and dying after 2005" argument is so dumb. Reminds me of my old epic rant where I angrily debunked that argument.

The prequels never ruined Star Wars, they ENHANCED the franchise. It's those loud, whiny, obnoxious prequels haters are what caused the series to go downhill. Maybe if they grew up and moved on with their lives without the prequel hate, we wouldn't be in this current state of Star Wars.

They "ruined" star wars for OT kids because OT kids preferred their childhood imaginary headcanon over what was being anticipated since 1980. It's not like the prequels came out of left field.

Great video! I also like to add that Red Letter Media played a part in the prequel hate and how the Plinkett videos influenced a number of fans and viewers that later on became the monstrosity of prequel hate.

Back when George Lucas was still the owner of Star Wars, I was always happy when a new Star Wars game was announced. Now with Disney owning Star Wars, I'm only looking forward to one Star Wars game and I'm more worried it might suck than being excited for it.

If anything the Sequel Movies are what ruined the series. No matter how far back in the timeline they set a story it's still not worth it because the Sequels poisoned the well. Everything will eventually lead to them without retconning and we all know for a fact that there will be NO stories set after the sequel movies

I think what annoys me the most is that people would say that legends had plot holes and Disney canon doesn't. Expanded Universe writers try their best to fix them by creating good stories. Disney, meanwhile, had so many plot holes, and I dont even know how their going to explain the plot holes created by season 7 of Clone Wars, the Bad Batch, Kenobi, or even tales of the Jedi. At this point, Disney doesn't care about continuity

2:10 George Lucas actually cited the success of the Thrawn Trilogy as being what convinced him the time was right to make the Prequel Trilogy.

If anything it was attack of the clones that boosted Star Wars hype. Look at the box office number for revenge of the sith and attack of the clones. If attack of the clones was the worst one as many prequel haters like to say, then why was the hyp and demand for revenge of the sith so high that made ground braking box office numbers

To respond to that tweet from Matt though he clearly hasn’t been paying attention to Star Wars if he means “it’s more popular than ever.” It only seems that way because Disney as we know pays critics and advertisers big money to ad/review any Star Wars product they make. And he seems to forget there are consumers who will buy anything as long as it has a products name. Just look at call of duty vanguard. Game was shit but still made money because “call of duty.”Another thing he doesn’t seem to realize is another reason Star Wars seems so popular now is because all of a sudden nerd culture is cool. So no Matt Star Wars is not more popular than ever under Disney it only seems that way because of shills and the media who defends Disney 24/7. And funny enough even though consumers are a big part even product sales are going down for some.
