My favorite "get out of jury duty" story is my mother's. She was called up when I was in high school and she sat voir dire for a criminal trial. They asked her if she could be impartial in a rape trial and she said "I have a 16 year old daughter. If she were raped, the rapist wouldn't live to see trial." Surprise surprise, she was excluded.

I was a juror by default a few years ago when selected for jury duty. An older guy who was an alternate juror wanted to get out so bad he said the smartest thing. "I automatically assume the defense is guilty since they're in court" lol.

I got all the way to the courthouse day of the trial. They were showing us where to food and beverages will be kept for us. I said “you got us snacks?!” with a child like excitement. People all laughed. They finished showing a few other things and the person left. They came in five minutes later and said I could leave. It might of also been the Budweiser shirt I was wearing.

I worked with an odd looking guy with a very round face and very round googly eyes.
He was well aware of his looks and he had fun with it.
He was called for jury duty, so he popped those eyes, grinned ear to ear and asked very enthusiastically "will this be a death penalty trial!?" He was excused.

The first day we were supposed to show up they canceled the trial because the guy plead guilty.

One of my family members is in the law enforcement field. He told me that if I ever want to get out of jury duty, I just need to be extremely biased towards one side (ex. “The defendant is/isn’t guilty because he’s I can tell!” or “I can tell that it’s the plaintiff’s/defendant’s fault that xxx happened”). That being said, I probably won’t do this because the judge might get mad at me and throw me in jail for contempt since I’m wasting everyone’s time and could potentially poison the jury pool. Best way is to respectfully explain your situation (like if you live on your own and can’t afford to be on a jury for an extended time) and hope that the judge excuses you
