Lufthansa Group has announced a significant order for new widebody aircraft. However, unfortunately, with the commitment to new planes, they're also plotting the official retirement of many aircraft types. In addition, it'll mean that the amount of widebody aircraft present will only drop as the group moves to more efficient twin-engined aircraft. A sad change of times as companies say goodbye to these aircraft that are no longer efficient.

I will miss the A340-600 the most. I love this long quad engine jet.

As a 747 pilot, I’ll miss the 747s. They’re simply the best.

Well at least the 747-8s will be around for a while yet, but the same can't be said for any of the A340 variants.

I will miss the Boeing 747-400's the most, as it's my childhood aircraft and the aircraft the introduced me to my love of aviation. Plus, it'll be more Boeing 747's in general gone for good and that's something that's hard to comprehend and think about. The Boeing 747 is arguably the most majestic aircraft to ever grace the skies so it'll be nothing more than heartbreaking to see them go from passenger service.

I'll really miss the 747. My favorite aircraft. The most beautiful aircraft to ever be made. What a shame that they are being retired.

As someone who's been on a flight that's lost a engine in the middle of the Pacific ocean, you appreciate there are still 3 more.
Long live the 747. 🇦🇺

747. I remember being in business class non-smoking across the Pacific. Having the upstairs bubble just to that small group of passengers was very relaxing.

I've always loved Lufthansa's A340-600s because they're so sleek and beautiful. I'll miss them the most, with their below deck lavatories. Beautiful aircraft.

For me, it's the quadjets I'll miss the most. They give airports variety.
I frankly dngaf about twinjets.

The 747 passenger plane might be out of date, but it's freighter version would still be around for a while. No?

I was fortunate to enter the aviation industry in 1992 as a 22 yr old 747-100 FE then went to the right seat with the 74-2 and 74-4 and then transitioned to a Captain in the 74-4. I am now a Captain on a 74-8 and I am closer to the govt. clipping my wings with my age but since I am in the freight industry I feel that I will fulfill and end my career on the 74-8. I have delivered many Queens to the desert knowing that I was the last pilot to fly that particular aircraft. It has been an amazing career so far in a very volatile industry with a few hiccups and I will always be proud of my time in the Whale, the older I get the more time I have come to appreciate the 747, to me it takes me back to when I was 10 yrs old and a very friendly Pan Am Captain let me visit the flight deck and from that moment I was hooked

Boing 747 will be missed the most. Simply put, the best looking type for a plane.

*In 12 years all these airlines will realize that they need 747 fleets.*

I will miss the A340-600, a great aircraft, and the -300 as well, even though it was called "underpowered", I still enjoyed it.
