The only way something like this can happen in the United States is to abolish the electoral college and replace it with Ranked Choice Voting. This will allow a host of other political parties to enter the race, new ones to form and to have better election outcomes that are much less divisive.

Currently there are just too many career politicians to make any meaningful change that's not in favor of career donors.

Face it, I'm just going to chalk it up to French people being smarter than American people. Even though I know that's not true. But how can we be so stupid in the US??? We need government that supports the people not the corporations and rich billionaires who don't need the support. We need government by the people for the people and representative government in the US which we do not have because of the stupid electoral college and the fact that senators are only two per state regardless of population size! It's an outrage. We are getting towards dystopian in the US honestly. We need to overhaul our voting system and make it fair so that we have a truly representative government. Currently we have government by the rich people for the rich people. Democrats are a little bit better on that front but not good enough.
