I didn't understand the application part at the end. If they owned the property and chose to sell it for the benefit of the early Christian community but kept a small stash for rainy days, how were they abusing the church for their personal use? I genuinely want to know.

FYI for chapter 5, the bible doesn't say that God struck them dead. It just says they dropped dead. It's a contested verse as far as many interpret it that God struck them dead, or that they were killed, or they died out of shame/shock to the system/heart attack. The verse itself doesn't explicitly say who or how.

Rabban Gamaliel destroyed the Jesus movement when he said it would come to nothing if it had no divine origin as the historical evidence says the Nazarene sect of Judaism came to naught in 135 ce and disappeared from history in 333 ce. The only logical conclusion is that Jesus was not the Messiah.
