So what started out as something positive turns into something negative, but it doesn't have to be that way. Responding and accepting a compliment is in fact so simple that everyone can do it without practice.

Positive compliments are easy to handle. However, how do you "accept" a negative compliment?
It sometimes happens, especially with people you know that don't like you. They will say something that looks nice but in truth it states something to embarrass or humilliate you. Sometimes the negative twist is done so with the tone of voice.
For example:
"A fine looking dress." (pretty obvious negative)
"I like what you did with your hair." (if you are bald)
I think you get the idea.
