4:00 - That's a _bootkit._ A bootkit kicks in before the OS loads; a rootkit is embedded as _part_ of the OS. For example, a bootkit might be in the MBR or BIOS while a rootkit might be a driver or infected system file.

(I'm surprised Greg Hoglund was able to get his book published. They made for some very interesting reading back in the day.)
