What I'm wondering is how ancient humans survived without knowing this information. They probably only drank when they felt thirsty.

Very informative video. I'm 45 and have been drinking 1-1.5 gallons of water for 26 years now. Most important thing I do on a daily basis.

Off topic but I want to compliment you on the clarity of your voice and pronunciation, you're one of the few people I can completely understand on 4x speed (even 4.4 in some segments).

One of the best videos I’ve ever watched about dehydration. This guy is a really great educator!!!

I do physical work outside in the summer heat and drink roughly 2-3L of liquid in a whole day. I sweat quite a bit but don't get dark urine or bad thirst... tbh I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong because these numbers don't add up with the recommendations but I'm feeling good most of the time, so I don't want to throw myself off-balance by drinking a lot more water which might dehydrate me in the end. It's been this way ever since I started keto and I think it's because I had to augment my salt intake.

Exactly, however I don't know as seen studies that we overestimate water intake unless u exercise around an hr then yes at least 2-3 ltrs per day and I agree. Its the electrolytes we need more of, not over indulge of water especially so much at once. Another huge issue is you will alkalise your stomach acid too much and won't break food down and will sure bring on other issues in the digestive system plus absorption of nutrients etc.

Mate, what’s your educational background? I’d be interested in a video on alcohol percentage and how that relates to hydration (or lack thereof).

Activating the cellular osmosis pump is where dehydration is fixed.. and cellular toxicity is addressed.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on the point that dark urine is always a bad sign. You want to have dark urine in the morning. Giving your kidneys a break from fluid intake at night allows filtration to be maximized. If you are constantly drinking water your kidney function will suffer.

Bruh....I work for a pool company in the Sonoran Desert Southwest. I monitor my water intake year round and during the summer (esp late summer when even in this desert it gets humid), depending on how high the temperature gets (It ~easily~ gets to 110° f and can reach 115° f and up), I will drink as much as 2-3 gallons of WATER throughout the entire waking day andy urine will still often get dark! It bothers me bc I think I drink too much water.

Thirst is not too late in dehydration event. Come on man. That is ridiculous. You drink when you are thirsty, that has worked for millions of years.

I am very curious as to where you found that some people need up to 2 gallons of water a day. This will lead to hyponatremia in the large majority of people. You really do not need more than 1 gallon of water a day unless your an extreme endurance athlete and this is the general consenses in the literature.

when our ancestors were building the pyramids, they didn't have a bottle of water for each worker ready to be drank every half hour of the day. they relied on fats like oils goat cheese and olives to keep their day going without a drop of water in the desert. this was also true in different parts of the world. our bodies are well adapted to fats. water isn't necessary every day.
