I love the fact the prop department handcarved those wooden "stations of the cross" to illustrate his story. Fits so well for the show.

When he called it an angel, the vampire recognized this as phrase of worship, it realized it could use this man as a pawn to it means, it’s definitely not a mindless creature.

Father Paul is the best anti villain I’ve ever seen in my mortal existence.

I like how even though we really don't find out anything specific about this vampire's origins, we get enough to make an educated guess; it's clearly an ancient vampire thousands of years old (if it was ever human, those days are long gone and now it's this inhuman monstrosity) and it was sealed up in this church/tomb long ago, probably as a way to imprison it. The sandstorm unearthed the entranced to its prison and the Monsignor stumbling onto it allowed it access to a familiar/pawn that could get it out of the tomb and bring it to a new feeding ground.

This is seriously one of the best vampire feeding scenes I've ever seen. The monolgue and carved biblical imagery, lining parallel with the demon/vampiric creature's behavior. I held my breath thr whole time.

what i love about the show is that every time, a miracle is performed (glasses from the mother, back for the dad, leeza standing etc), for every example something/ someone dies, for the mother the cat in the first shot, then the cats on the beach and the drug dealer in de abandoned house, for every death there was a miracle in return.

I believe Pruitt knew the whole time this thing wasn't an angel and simply tried to convince himself as much as everyone else just out of wanting to get back to his lover and daughter and have a second chance with them no matter the cost. Riley's challenges against him after he was turned actually set off a bit of realization in him, and he secretly hoped by letting him go that night that he would blow the lid on everything, the way he was talking to him as he was walking him out very much sounded like there was a double meaning of 'please save me from this you're a braver man than me'. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Pruitt wasn't religious at all, but his revelations in the last episode really seem to point towards him mostly having used the church and priesthood his whole life out of fear of death for himself and loved ones and desperately just wanting some answer or reassurance.

I love how at @1:05 you can see a halo effect above the “Angel”

He gets his wings clipped at the end by Erine. Like how she was. And like how her mom was. And birds. Etc.

Monsignor Pruitt is not a villain, he's just a good man who made an awful decision

Mike Flanagan's idea was exceptional! He's a genius!

This entire scene is what cemented this as one of Netflix's best originals, and Mike Flanagan's best work.

Props to this arch vampire, he could've just sucked him dry then and there, but he was playing the long game.

This whole scene has a touch of Lovecraft too.

I feel like this all could have been avoided had someone gone with Pruitt on his trip. Really, the congregation knew he was going senile. Why did they send him to a completely different country by himself?

this scene gave me so much goosebumps... the soft choir in the background, all the handcarved art, how Pruitt saw the creature..
