The root of any number is a pair, not a single value. Each member of the pair refers to completely different things.
Mathematically speaking one is an enumerator the other enumerand.

why can't the square root of a number be negative
(-6) * (-6) = 36
therefore the square root of 36 can be either -6 or +6
when you do your check if you say the square root of 36 is -6 then add 10 you get 4
which makes the solution valid
