People seem to not realize what this fight scene was supposed to do. The Hulk had already been established as the strongest Avenger and by raw power the strongest known being who isn't Power Stone Amped Ronan, Ego or Dormammu, all three of which had to be beaten with tricks and gimmicks rather than raw power. Thanos beats the Hulk here without using any of the Infinity Stones, at basically the start of the movie, which directly shows what Thanos by himself, no army, no stones, is capable of. He stomped the One-Man-Army that is the Hulk, the same guy who just punched Final Form Ultron like he was nothing and was confirmed to be stronger than Thor, who had already beat Reality Stone Amped Malekith at that point. This establishes Thanos as by far the greatest non-literal-god threat anyone's faced, before he even gets the Infinity Stones.

That was Loki's did something good to trick Thanos and willing to defeat him. But failed!

As much as I love old hulk I have to embrace the truth of reality...

No old hulk would not have "beaten" Thanos here.

The only reason Hulk did any reasonable "damage" here was because he caught Thanos by surprise and was able to get a few blows in while the titan was trying to process the ambush, once Thanos identified the threat and situation, this was where Hulk's fate was sealed. This isn't like a fight between Hulk and Abomination where it's just two big guys throwing punches dragon ball Super style, it's a big guy who throws punches vs another big guy who knows how to fight up close. We can clearly see that Thanos is an extremely skilled martial artist able to easily evade, parry, and counter Hulk's attacks with little to no effort, and being an MMA expert he'd know the right amount of energy to use for maximum efficiency, not to mention most of old hulks fights would have him starting weaker, gradually surpassing his foes, and the only time I can see that working here is if Thanos let it happen or was distracted long enough, because in truth he'd definitely try to disable/cripple hulk and break the big guy down before he could get angry enough to threaten Thanos, as he not only is skilled at fighting, but also quite smart.

Which is why him defeating Hulk so casually makes him seem like a very imposing villain.

This kinda proves that Hulk wouldn’t really last long against the justice league. They fight half naked brutes practically on the daily, and of course most of them are master hand to hand fighters. There’s nothing he could do that would surprise them. Not saying it would be too easy for them, but they’d still demolish him
